Reading all this about charities and food banks, my biggest gripe is school children being asked to bring specified amounts of money into school for charities.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of charities are good, but I will not be dictated to about who to give donations to.

We had to sit down and explain why we never sent money in as "requested". It tended to be for African charities. My OH spent two years living in Zambia and often saw what happened to this "aid". It tended to be grabbed by the government and sold to the people at only slightly below market value if at all, it was a wonderful way for the government officials to feather their personal nests.

I personally only give to local charities where I can see what is happening to the donations. And, at least in the local town, I avoid the charity shops because of their attitude. We live in a prosperous area, paperback books tend to be at least £2 and clothes tend to be not much less than the price of new clothes. And the assistants hate it if you pop in and leave without buying, one actually said to me "do you wish to leave a donation if you're too mean to buy anything"!! I haven't been in that one since, I had to walk by without replying because if I had opened my mouth I dread to think what would have come out.!

Well.....I did something I normally never do. I ate some buffet butties!:eek: I was starving :o I don't normally like buffets. All those dirty hands pawing at food  but in the interests of not fainting (it was nearly 12pm by this time) I shut my eyes and threw a few butties down and hoped I'd survive to tell the tale.

  • I was going to ask my ds1 and ds2 schools if they wanted my surplus biccies for a bake sale.. a bit cheaty as I've not made them but hopefully would raise some money for the kids. ill keep a few for myself my ds loves the nice creams :)

They both went to a birthday party on saturday ( before he was ill) and I asked the mum did she need a few biicies ... they went down a storm. I work in a school so ill prpb bring in a few for break time with a culpa at work. Ive brought in a few roses ( we like the heroes ;) ) to work and they got pillaged during break time.

    I'm going to bed.

Maybe not popular :o but I just say what others are thinking? it's fine to be giving stuff to the food banks and I'm sure they welcome it......but has anyone ever stopped to think how utterly condescending they sound?? I have free biscuits.....I won't eat them so I'll give them to the food bank. Seriously folks, if you have been involved with the people who really need food banks ( not the ones that take the !!!!) you wouldn't dare be so condescending :-( why should someone be grateful for 'fillers' that you wouldn't dare eat yourself?
this has bugged me lately. in my experience food bank users are no better or worse than us. they are people who have fallen on hard times. Could be you or I? so why do they deserve the stuff that isn't good enough for you?

The stuff I donate is stuff we eat. I felt really guilty for donating smart price etc and I was going to buy name brands to donate but OH said to not to be silly. I always buy fillers like tinned sweetcorn, tinned carrots etc.

A lot of my friends backed out today, even though they said they would come, after I roped them in last week.

My friend is a zumba instructor and has been on a course today to test this out, I think it will become as popular as the zumba when that first started.

I have no co ordination with legs and arms at the same time :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: so being in the dark was just great, because it doesnt matter, as nobody can see if your doing it wrong :rotfl::rotfl:

Just need to buy a whistle and some glow sticks for my next session.

Ohhhh sounded quite good till you mentioned whistles . So everyone's busy blowing whistles as well are they lol.

Ive not been on for ages I've been lurking a bit... My ds is still seizure free since jan 4th thank god.

I've done a shop and a muggle shop ill post results later mine was udis so not sure whether working. I did a persil just tried one and came up as £6.85 though id let hampydodums know as also gets stuff from hub :)
My OH was having a spat with henlans on the dark side over the biscuits.
He is running the London marathon for Hemihelp as one of the conditions of my ds is a right sided hemiplegia (this may be to do with why he had a seizure) DS had an EEG at GOSH last Wednesday so we will be getting the results soon I hope and hope they are good.
Its freezing down here even the inside of my windscreen was frozen.

Best to all and enjoy your tea and coffee if you've got one in front of you now (i have)
Don't forget o2 priority ill be stocking up on lunches in whsmith the sell by dates are really good on the sarnies u usually get three days and a decent selection of drinks and sweets/crisps/ snacks. my ds loves prawn sandwiches ... strange i know for a seven year old but its a change from my home made ones.
    xx
    T

Morning luvlies, beautiful sunny day here

troutabout so glad your DS is doing well and hope results come back good on his EEG :)

So kind of you to let me know about the results from the hub for the Persil. I've been doing c&c from a larger store which gets picked from that actual store so was able to check the prices before I ordered but hadn't chanced an order from the hub yet. Thanks again :)

Hope everyone has a good day x
