I've bought cars from dealers with a year's MOT and when I went to get it MOT'd the following year the faults which failed it wouldn't have legally got through the dealer's MOT. They are a dodgy bunch who pass cars through their own MOT which make the vehicle potentially unsafe; like the time I bought a Pajero which when I went to get it MOT'd and serviced after the initial year's MOT showed a cracked rear axle and £5000 worth of necessary work required just to pass it. I know a bit about cars because I used to be a mechanic 30+ years ago but some faults just can't be spotted.

Just my opinion but on a modernish car of that age, that sounds like a lot of rust. Cars dont rust like they used to.

Ford Ka's and rust seem to go hand in hand sadly, they are very well known for it. If you Google ford ka rust you'll get endless hits.
Not a car id have chosen personally for this reason.

Op, sit your wife down, have a Google and show her the results. Might be enough to persuade her away from it.

As I said previously, I know little about cars but once we got home with the MOT's and works history I immediately googled the problem and saw just what you said. Fords are rustbuckets and Ford Ka's have had this problem for years, in the same area.

The wife has seen all the reports that I have seen and still has decided to keep it.........unless something goes wrong with it over the next few weeks that is.

I think I'll be harder to reject it after a few weeks.
