Local council testing centre and/or VOSA (whatever their new name is I can't recall) first thing in the morning. Ultimately though give the dealer an opportunity to give you your money and car back, if this is a bully boy little pitch (and he certainly doesn't sound professional) you may end up with slightly bigger problems than a failed MOT. Xx

What good is a council mot station going to do?

Have you read the thread? The dealer has already offered a refund and the buyer declined.

Call the dealer back in the morning, tell them you've slept on it and would like to take him up on the refund.

The amount of hassle headed your way if you keep it really isn't worth it I suspect. It's a 2005 Ka. Plenty of them around to choose from.

The big problem is that he's just going to sell it to someone else...

So why wasn't the car inspected before you bought it? it isn't just down to the seller to detail everything that is wrong with the car. You have to ask questions and inspect the car yourself. Did you ask to see the previous MOTs before buying? Did you inspect the car or buy blindly? sorry to be harsh here but you have to take some of the responsibility here.

I really don't see why you should feel cheated or disgusted. The dealer is putting right what was wrong and giving you the car back - what exactly are you disgusted by and how have you been cheated???

To be perfectly blunt half the problem here seems to me to be the relationship between OP and his wife, it sounds very peculiar.

Very nice - we have been happily married for 47 years and this has made no dofference to our relationship. It is just that I can see glaring problems with the smoothness of this car sale whereas my wife just wants a car to gtet her to and from work and her social activities.

Our relationship has not and will not be affected by this, we are far too strong for that. I am just concerned with my wifes safety whereas she thinks everything is now fine.

I totally agree with you - if only I was married to you life would be so much easier :rotfl:

Just my opinion but on a modernish car of that age, that sounds like a lot of rust. Cars dont rust like they used to.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

BoP now interrupts for the ease if reading.

OP's ex, was married, bought a rust bucket from a shady car dealer. OP got upset, went round dealers place and demanded a refund, which was immediately offered. This was completely unacceptable to OP.

OP is current seeking advice on an Internet forum.

BoP suggests this post should be moved to marriages, family and affairs section.

It is not known if OP is seeking a divorce. OP was unhappily married for 47 years.
