Timid wife but boy am I angry!

My wife bought a used 2005 reg Ford Ka 2 days ago and we were not told of any defects. It was not until she brought it home and I looked at the documents that I saw it had major rust on both front suspension joints and one sill bracket as an advisory on the last MOT.
No mention was made of this. As the Ka was supposed to come with a NEW MOT (but the old one dated 7 months previous) was the only MOT with the Ka so we asked for a new one as per advert. He arranged it next day.
My wife took it to the MOT test station, as per the dealers arrangement, and the tester failed it. My wife drove it straight back to the dealer who offered to fix it. She has now without a car but has to get to work 5 days a week. What are our rights? what should we do next? We are (wife) 66yo and (me) 68yo and have always been honest and straight with people byt feel cheated and disgusted.
I believe we are entitled to a replacement car meanwhile (but they don't have one)...what should we do. We also px our old car as part of the deal and my wife doesn't want to cause trouble!!!!

So the dealer messed up and now sorting it out for you? Sounds good to me.
Have you asked for a courtesy car?0 -
No she hasn't yet but is going to today but the dealer only has a few cars for sale and is not a large dealer.0

What did the car fail on?
You may have been sold an unroadworthy car.0 -
So why didn't you go with your "timid" wife to buy a car? Especially if she isn't very knowledgeable about them (which is fair enough).0

I am a proper girl when car buying I pick the make/model/colour but the technical side is left to my OH .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

A ten year old car is never going to be perfect, taking someone who knows a bit about cars or getting the AA to inspect it is pretty much a necessity.
Now that the dealer is prepared to fix it you are actually getting a good result because it has to be repaired to MOT standards which will be safe and as good as it gets for a ten year old car.
If course that doesn't mean wear and tear won't strike further down the line but that happens with any car and is part of the cost of motoring.0 -
How was she getting to work before "ka-gate"?Thinking critically since 1996....0

She had an oldish Citroen Xsara Picasso which was pout in part exchange. The latest news on this is that the dealer IS getting it repaired and MOT'd so hopefully all WILL be ok but my main complaint is that the car was 'unfit for purpose' as well as being dangerous.
On contacting the dealer today he said the car will be fixed and delivered to us today but he said that yesterday too. One thing I will want to see and for my wife to keep, is a list of the work done so it can go in with the rest of the receipts fro work this Ka has had over the years. It will also ease my mind that the work HAS been done (OK so I have lost my trust in car dealers).
My wife phoned him today and got the answerphone so left a message saying she would like her money back. Within a few minutes he had returned her call and promised her that the work will be done and the car delivered by the garage when it's ready. even the wife is not happy now as she needs her car tonight as she sings and plays ukulele Tuesdays to Fridays. She is at work now but no news of the car.0 -

Both front suspension mounts rusted and one sill bracket rusted (as far as I can remember but the wife waas at the MOT yesterday, not me, and couldn't really remember what the tester said. These were the advisories in June 2014 but the dealer had not even checked them - just bought it and sold it.0 -
