Very interesting. I've put this on my short-list. It seems that it only works with Vodafone, though.
I visited the house again and my T-Mobile signal (which I think comes from EE) was very weak, unless I went into the garden. The Estate Agent had Vodafone which had a strong signal, so maybe Vodafone is the way to go.0 -

Unfortunately the links in post no 4 did not work when I clicked.0 -
I'd also recommend the EE 6GB for £15. I used a couple of these with a 4G mifi device when I moved house and had to wait a few weeks for broadband. Just throw it away and buy a new one when it's run out - it's cheaper to buy another SIM than to top up (or it was, anyway).
Which mifi device did you use, and would you recommend it?0 -

£0.99p to unlock
You can also do it yourself for nothing with the appropriate calculator.0 -

The Vodafone one as indicated is the best value initially. But once the 2GB has been utilised, I would sideline the Vodafone SIM and try with a Three or EE SIM, as they are much better value for money.
I wouldn't recommend a monthly contract with Vodafone or Three unless you are absolutely sure that you will not going over your data allowance. Vodafone charges £26 per GB for going over your allowance. Three charges as much as £100, from memory.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
So with them, always better to err on the high side. I don't think EE allows you to go over.
PAYG is safer overall, but the allowances are smaller.
If Vodafone is really the only one with a decent signal and you need more data once you've used up the initial 2GB, you can enter into a 30 day contract with a Vodafone SIM only plan
3GB UK 25% off - was £16.00 4G £12.00
Plan details
5GB UK 25% off - was £21.00 4G £15.75
Plan details
8GB UK 25% off - was £26.00 4G £19.50
As soon as the plan is activated, you can give them your 30 day notice to cancel, so that it only runs for one month if that is all that you need.0 -

Thanks for all this, but I'll only need it for a short time. I'm moving house and will be without broadband for a few days or maybe a week or two, until I can get the new one installed.
However, once I have the device, it will be useful for taking away on holidays, so again just for a short while now and again.0 -

There is no but necessary. Better to have the info than not.
No need to begin a new thread as to how to unlock, if your Internet takes longer than expected or if you use more than you thought.
So Vodafone MiFi and unlock asap, so that it's ready for home and abroad.0 -

Huawei E5776 bought from EE last year on a 30 day contract with Quidco cashback, so it cost about £20 IIRC. I bought an unlock code from ebay for 99p so I can now use it with any network. I don't think EE sells this model any more, but it works fine.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
I have a Huawei E586. It's not tied to any network. (unlocked) Bought unlocked from Amazon.
I buy a one off Three 3G ready-to-go mobile sim. It's valid for three months or until you reach the limit, then it expires. (No contract).
These are available from eBay and Amazon.
I use mine when I stay with Mum or away on holiday when there is no internet available. It could also be used abroad with a local sim.
A friend of mine doesn't have broadband and has one of these and a sim from Three on a 12 month contract, 5G a month for £9
Hope that helps.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
