Threatened with a visit by an angry buyer

These people think they can 'get one over' on people selling broken items. They think the sellers are numpties and that they will easily be able to repair the item and then sell on for a profit.
When they buy something and then realise that it really is knackered and they can't fix it.. they start crying about wanting a refund and the item not being as described.
I've had it myself a few times selling faulty PC components on eBay.
They're scum.0 -
what gets me. if a product is beyond repair, and no parts can be obtained, why sell it in the first place??? even with the title spares or repairs
or have I missed something here??Work to live= not live to work0 -

All sorts of reasons
Potential repairer to practice on
Buyer has the magical spare part already (or is clear he can obtain it)
Buyer might have a work-around i.e. know another part that'll do the job
Buyer wants it for display only
etc etc etc0 -
I called the Police for advice as that is certainly a threat so taking us beyond the original civil matter , a very helpful officer discussed the issue and advised me I should not refund in his opinion and certainly should not be threatened/bullied in this manner. He offered to call the seller to warn off, he also offered to be present at my house at the same time as the buyer .
Just pondering my best course now
The seller may be calling your bluff, but I'd take the police up on their offer of being at your house, and if the guy doesn't show, you can ask the PO to give the guy a call anyway. If they're trying it on, this might be enough to make them stop harassing you.0 -
Take the Police offer to call the buyer. Once the buyer knows the Police are involved hopefully they will back off.
If not, take up the Police offer to be at your house.0 -
Read this with interest. Realistically I don't have that much faith in the Police no matter how helpful they seem, they are more reactive than proactive these days - meaning not much happens until they take a statement from beside the victims hospital bed.
This person could be a total head job and you could end up with bricks through the windows and God knows what else for years to come. Yes the seller has the moral high ground but but the people telling him not to refund are not in the firing line so can afford to be brave.
Perhaps knowing someone who got battered into a 'touch and go' coma on their doorstep doesn't help. The legal system then let the attackers out on bail and were able to do very little to stop them continue harassing the victims family and witnesses. This hell went on for over 2 years!
Refund, be friendly and be done with it. Involving the police may provoke an idiot into a nutcase.0 -

Maybe the buyer thought "I've got a right mug here, this thing's worth ten times as much when I fix it".
Trouble is, he's not up to fixing it, so now wants his money back . . .
If this is the case, he took a chance and it didn't work out for him - tough!0 -
Precisely, you have no idea who you may be dealing with, it may well be a geeky keyboard warrior with no strength, conversely it could be a local villain who's happy to take the law into his own hands.sillygoose wrote: »This person could be a total head job and you could end up with bricks through the windows and God knows what else for years to come.
OP hasn't been on since earlier this afternoon, so he should know by now what he was dealing with. I hope it was a good outcome..0 -
Just came back to see if there was any update from the OP - would like to know what happened.0
