Cutting out sugar from my diet. Has anyone else done this (or IQS)?

So a typical breakfast is normally either:
-Pancakes with yogurt
-HM granola https://iquitsugar.com/recipe/coco-nutty-granola/ with milk (almond milk is my favourite).
-Scrambled eggs, bacon and toast
-Grilled haloumi and apples (I only eat an apple if this is my breakfast, otherwise I don't eat any fruit at all) https://iquitsugar.com/recipe/salted-caramel-haloumi-apple/
-Porridge with peanut or hazelnut butter
Thanks for this - I love granola and almost had kittens (sorry, not you personally!!) when I realised how much sugar is in the commercial stuff!
I have just made sugar free lemon curd and it's not bad at all; I desperately want something sweet to put in my plain Greek yogurt so thought this might do it - the recipe link is
http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/desserts/r/locarblemoncurd.htm
and I did fiddle about with the amounts because I used to make proper lemon curd so adjusted it a bit.
I hadn't heard of IQS, (although I have read 'pure, white and deadly' and 'sugar blues' so I knew there was a lot being discussed on this issue) so have just looked it up, will read a bit more, thanks.
Good luck!0 -

I'd really recommend that recipe I gave for granola. I find it very filling, especially with a dollop of plain yogurt on top (full fat).
I normally make a big tray of it and then store it in a kilner jar type of pot. It keeps for ages too
I am not a fan of lemon curd, but do love peanut butter. I have made my own a few times, but really don't like it. So I buy the Whole Earth one as it only contains peanuts, oil and salt.
Breakfast today is a Bagel with PB on it. Not very sugar free (the bagel has some sugar in it) but I am using up what I have in the freezer.0 -

No I haven't seen the book yet! I'm not keen on honey and don't like maple syrup, so the book might be going back to the library again pretty quickly if that's the case :rotfl:0 -

Oh dear, LOL. Well at least you didn't buy it
My long term goal is to be able to enjoy chocolate/sweet things as a 'once-in-a-blue-moon' treat. Maybe Christmas and birthdays.
I definitely don't want to be eating it daily, like I was, or even weekly really.0 -

Yes, I am struggling a bit with trying to decide whether I can get to this point or have to just have to stop completely. If I am addicted, then it would like me saying 'I will just have a cigarette on special occasions' (managed to quit that one!)

Hi all - I'd like to join you if I may? I've been struggling with tinnitus for a couple of years and suddenly realised that it stopped when I lost weight, then started again over Christmas - so I researched the effects of sugar on tinnitus, and lo and behold... http://www.livestrong.com/article/505381-blood-sugar-ringing-in-the-ears/
WantToBeSE - can you omit the rice syrup in week one of that granola or is it really bland without it? I don't really eat sugary cereals anyway so I think I'd be fine without it.
I also want to get my 4 year old on board a little to see if it helps with his mood swings, have been reading these recipes so going to try some over the weekend: http://www.sugarfreekids.com.au/

I got the book today. You are right about the recipes in the sweets and desserts section. To get the sweet taste without using refined sugar she has used maple syrup or honey. I think I would rather try and rid myself of the need for very sweet foods by cutting down on sweet things, and hopefully giving them up.
Sugar is sugar, after all. Whether it's white sugar or honey.0 -
Just been to T3sco and stocked up on microwave butter popcorn - three packs in a box and for some reason only 38p?! It was this one which is £1.99 online. Very odd. Anyway, I bought 6 boxes as it was all I could carry, should see me through snacks at home and work for a while!

Also bought a 750g bag of almonds for work snacking. Going to pick up some houmous and carrots for quick fix snacks in the fridge over the weekend too.My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
