    hmm

I would beg to differ - when I've seen 2 year old Panda multijets go for more expensive than I paid new it's not going to lose 50% of it's value overnight - and the multijet is a great engine - extremely economical.
  • I own a Fiat Panda (which has just won Autocars best city car for the third year in a row) and have never had an issue with its reliability.

I know Fiat had a poor reputation in the past but if anyone has picked up any motoring magazine lately, you will know that the new 500 is the most anticipate car since the new Mini.

I am considering a Grande Punto and having driven it think its a cracking car and good value.

Before you take the mickey, have a look at the web site

    Clearly from a Fiat Fan

Just to add a thought about the people who say the £1k discount voucher isn't much cop because you can usually haggle more of a discount - while this is true, it may be the case that the £1k voucher is a manufacturer discount and is on top of any discount you negotiate with the dealer.

If I were buying a new Fiat I'd go through the usual haggling process at a number of dealerships, find the lowest price, and then produce the £1k voucher after the deal is struck.

Got to be worth a go.

PS. The new Panda has an excellent reliability and owner satisfaction record which even puts VW to shame. Judge cars on the present, not the past!

In my experience the value drops like a stone. The worst part of owning a FIAT is that the majority of dealers are just not bothered. I had one with only minor faults and 4 dealers in different towns struggled to fix it. It was towed into two. In general a good car if you pay a good price but use independant garages. That could go for a lot of makes these days.

Go to any Car Auction and see just how much a one year old Fiat sells for, the trade know how much these things are worth, ( or should I say worthless.)

Resale value on Fiats might plummet, but I had a good experience with my Punto. I bought the first model from new and owned it for about 10 years without any major issue. Great car. I do prefer my new VW Passat, but that is a whole different car which cost twice as much. Not everyone sells cars after 2-3 years and is happy buying year old models..

YAWN!!! Welcome to the 1970's Fiat bashing thread, its like stepping back in time!!! Next you lot will be cracking out the Skoda jokes... oh wait....

I have no feeling for Fiat either way, but to be honest it annoys me that the majority (if not all) of the people above can bash the current Fiat crop of cars without owning one or having any knowledge of the current cars. Their judgments are based entirely on hearing the Fic It Again Tomorrow quip that was about when I was knee height of a grass hopper...

Jesus, the OP was trying to help people save £1000 off a new car, it might not be the best deal ever, let people decide for themselves but the OP had good intentions!

    Mini-rant over! :D
