I have an '04 Reg Fiat Panda, owned it for about 18 months now and I think it's the best small car I've ever driven. I've had no problems with it, it drives great and is nippy enough round town and quiet enough to make motorway driving at 70 no problem.
It's my only experience of owning a Fiat but I would certainly consider buying another one. In fact I've been looking at the new Fiat 500 which get's great reviews (as incidentally the Panda does as well)I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -
Thanks to the poster that pointed out the Panda de-valuation. I've just looked on autotrader for a runaround for my girlfriend, and you CAN pick up a 06 reg 1.2 panda in Scotchland for around £3500. You can't really argue with that for a car with nearly 2 years warranty. Top Gear seem to like it too...You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...0

I think I'm just about qualified to comment. From a Lancia Delta in 1983 to a Fiat Stilo 1.9 JTD today, and in between: Alfa Guillieta, Uno, Tipo x2, Strada. I have also owned , VW Passat, BMW X5 & 530, Mitsubishi spacewagon, Gallant, L200 and Charisma. All from new.
I've been really pleased with Fiats and had no problems with them at all. Having lived in Germany for 11 years and run VW and BMWs I wasn't sure what to get when I returned and after a lot of shopping around settled on the Stilo, negotiating £2000 off the price. That was two years and 30,000 miles ago. Still on the original tyres which are about half worn (I think the guy who replaces his front tyres after 14,000 miles needs to be a bit gentler on the throttle) and no problems at all. Love the engine and gearbox (far better than the Passat) and would have no hesitation in buying another.
The only marque I wouldn't touch with a barge pole is Renault. Nicely designed cars but the engines are too fragile. I know too many people who have had engines fail in them, and you read about tons of examples in the motoring press. Not a big fan of Ford or Vauxhall, drive them as work cars and don't really get any fun out of them.
So Fiat fan, yes! and would consider the new Delta when it gets here. Yes they depreciate a bit; but all new cars do and as long as you keep it for a few years it's not so bad.
