Well done on finishing off the debt Zig! I'm sorry your year has been so rough, I hope the biopsy brings better news.

Taught in a new school as cover for one of the other yoga teachers this morning, the teacher of one of the classes deserves a medal and bunch of flowers on a daily basis, those kids were wild!

ARGH I need to just commit to a name and be done with it. Looking at SEO type stuff I probably need to have Deals or Bargains in the title, but I do prefer the idea of savings as then it covers both saving money by buying something cheaper but also I can do things like how to save on your grocery bill, driving economically, uniform tax etc etc. C'mob Dinah, be decisive!

What about something along the lines of Amy's Bargains, Cuts and Deals? It sounded better in my head :o but I can't think of anything better money saving that starts with a C sorry :o

Codes?! I like where you're going with that Star! :T

Hope the biopsy went well Zig and that you get good news soon! Well done on paying all of that debt off despite having such a rough time of it, that's brilliant!

The cake was a chocolate fudge cake and I won the round! :j Was a hot, sticky, chocolatey mess last night and I feel like I blooming deserved the win after the night I had trying to bake 2 batches of cake mix, then get my super insulated flat to cool down so the icing would consider setting and the decorations would stop falling off the top!

Hooray for the weekend! Hope everyone has nice plans :)

The birthday cake you made looked incredible Birdie!! Well done for winning the bake off too! I love the idea of the frame workshop (and while you can help with the design etc, it would save you making them if you know what I mean..!)

Cindy how is the bump going? so exciting!! Sounds like you're doing well getting organised for baby's arrival! Good bargain it sounds like on the Jumperoo!

I can kind of do the CBC but won't be able to join in quite yet as I have quite a lot on but it is also the perfect kind of time to do some clearing as I need to get some new things and want to upgrade/overhaul my work wardrobe!!

Think I had.. 3 NSDs this week (totalling only 4 so far for September..!) but one other day was a charity donation which had to be that day so maybe I can still count this day (making 5 in total (am I cheating?)) will try for a few more!

    I like that it's ABCD Star :D

Hola all :hello: I've been dipping in and out but confess I haven't kept up properly :o What's going on with your liver, Zig? Hope all is OK :kisses3:

Quick update from me (can't remember when I last posted!):

I finished teaching in July and passed my NQT year (more out of goodwill from my Head of Dept and NQT mentor than from progress made throughout the year - sheesh! Bad management in a school in a deprived area does not a good combination make!).

A friend sent me a job vacancy she'd seen which seemed perfect for me - v similar to what I used to do at the uni, but instead of organising CPD courses for teachers, it's literacy intervention for pupils - I had all the right experience AND a passion for language. So I interviewed and got the job at the end of the July, starting 1st Sept. Loving it so far and have such a feeling of happiness and relief when I leave my work at work every night.

It has meant a pay cut certainly from teaching but also from what I was on at the uni. Some of the job involves selling and we have sales targets with incentives so there's a possibility of increasing my earning there, plus I have been asked to actually do some teaching of the programme in schools (to groups of four, with v little paperwork or planning needed), so that would mean a bit of extra money too.

I'm still stressed to bits at being basically the sole carer for both my Dad and Grandma. Dad has been unable to keep much food down for the last few months and has lost loads of weight. He had a very scary and public diabetic hypo incident in early August - the emergency ambulance took over an hour to arrive and I honestly thought he was going to die there and then. He's back on the chemo and feeling slightly better but not able to get out much. My Gran just seems to have one thing after another and is in and out of hospital constantly and becoming more and more demanding. I'm trying my best not to drop everything and rush round every time she says she needs anything because usually I get there and she already has, for example, an almost full carton of milk in the fridge.

Since the beginning of Sept I have been doing Slimming World and having way more success with it than I've had counting calories recently. I'm under 12.5st for the first time in two years and feeling very good, but with a long way still to go.

Still single and rapidly giving up hope of ever finding anyone vaguely intelligent and normal.

Here endeth the update. Some of my ex-teacher aims are to organise my life (inc tidying up!), organise my finances, and get back in contact with old friends. This thread can help me with all three :D Despite having all summer off, I had very little time to do the big clearout I'd planned (was constantly in hospital), so the clear-by-Christmas challenge has come at the perfect time. My finances are also in a state as I've had no time to bother with them, but I need to get them back on track to cope with the aforementioned pay cut. I used to be brilliant at piggy banking and need to get back into the habit. And as for the old friends bit - how are YOU? :rotfl:

(Sorry for the hijack Dinah, that's two years' worth of waffle for you!)

Tete!! So lovely to hear such a big update from you! What a time you have had but sounds like the new job is going really well and with potential extra little earners it sounds great! Get back into the piggy banking and sort out whats going on money wise once you get your first paycheque (I assume you haven't got one yet?!) and it will help you feel a lot better I hope!!

I'm so shocked at teaching.. i think you made the right decision but i can't believe the conditions are so bad that they 'let' you leave if you know what I mean. I think you had everything going to be an amazing teacher but there is so much more to it than meets the eye. All of the teachers I know are struggling constantly and its really sad. I think you are very brave to make the change though, and you will always have the skills you learnt and the qualified teacher status!

I hope your family are ok and you have some support, being in and out of hospital and having to stay strong for everyone sounds tough. Don't forget we are all always here to listen etc if you need us.

For me, costs seem to be spiralling out of control at the moment which is a bit annoying as I have been having a lot of unbudgetted costs but keeping my head above water and trying to get excited (in a mse way) about the future! don't want to say too much but soon might be trying to spend some time on the MFW board!!

Cinny hows bump? Zig are you ok from the biopsy? Hope you're not too sore !
  • Ooooooh well that sounds very exciting!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

How about Live For Less as a brand? The US domain is registered but nothing active under that as a name, so Live For Less UK would be how I'd have to have it on fb and website? Although worried it's a bit Sainsbury's now I've thought on it a few hours. Will reply to everything else shortly, but seems to cover all I want as in deals, advice, savings all in one bundle. Or sticking with what I know - Ultimate Money Saving/Saver? Something around the word Shoestring that I can't quite nail down.

I think Live for Less sounds like a Sainsbury's blog TBH. I still like Star's suggestion but with Codes instead of Cuts. Or if you want to 'make money as easy as ABC' - Advice, Bargains and Codes? :)

Great to have to back here Tete, really missed you! Sorry your Dad and Gran aren't well and it sucks that its all fallen to you to look after them. :( Are there any charities etc that can help with your gran, someone who can drop in a few times a week to make sure she's OK? Could social services help?

I have had a poorly little boy over the weekend so no CBC work done. :o I was a bit spendy too as I got carried away with the joys of payday! At least I bought the work shoes I've been needing for ages so I have happy feet. :)

Birdie I like the "as easy as ABC" tagline. Good thinking!

Tete nice to see you. Glad the new job is better for you. I agree with Birdie about finding a carer to pop in to see your gran. Even if it's just one hour a week. It's surprising what a bit of company can do for morale.

    Zig hope everything is okay?
