I applied via Cheap Energy Club on 28th Feb, my gas went over to them this week and to date 1 email. No welcome pack, no DD setup, no ask for Meter Readings. Have managed to get into some sort of online account but there is nothing in it.

And I thought First Utility were bad ........

    Hi there,

We’re sorry to hear that some of you are experiencing delays with your switch to Co-operative Energy. Unfortunately it seems to be having a few problems completing switches within the usual timeframes, this is following the rollout of new billing and customer service systems. We covered this in our recent news story:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/energy/2015/03/co-op-faces-customer-backlash-following-bungled-system-upgrade

For an update on how your switch is progressing you can contact Co-operative Energy on 0800 954 0693 or via the online form at https://www.cooperativeenergy.coop/customer-service/contact-us/email-us

    I hope this helps.

No you can't as they don't reply. Personally I'm not that bothered as at some point I will point out to them how much time and effort there failures have caused me and how that taking so long to switch means I didn't get the benefit of the cheaper tariff.

This means they can either compensate me properly or I'll escalate the eventual complaint to the regulator, I'm not going to bother chasing them until they get in touch with me and will raise a complaint on that basis. I'll be very up front that I'm looking for compensation and that if they can't make things right then it will be worse for them in the long run.

I applied to switch from Scottish Power to Co-OP Energy in January and was advised the switch would take place on 28th February. They asked for my meter readings, which I supplied. To date, they've taken 2 Direct Debits from my account for March and April at about 60% of what I should have paid per month. Not sure whether this was for Gas or Electric. Have tried to phone but it just rings with no reply. Have e-mailed to find out what's happening but received an acknowledgment saying they would reply within 10 days, that was nearly 3 weeks ago. Have checked my account and the Direct Debit now says"amount not known". Have tried to go online onto my account but that doesn't work either. What a useless Company!!! I'm sure at some stage they'll start taking the correct amount of money from me but don't really want to build up a large debt.

I don't suppose anyone knows the e-mail address of the CEO of Co-OP Energy??

There seems to be some serious flag-waving for the Co-op on behalf of MSE. Why is this?

The new computer system is a month old and is a complete disaster for existing customers, so why would MSE still be driving customers towards the co-op??

    Seriously - why?

I went over to them yesterday. Perhaps I should have read this forum first.
I swapped as a result of the recommendation of a friend, who had nothing but praise for them.
Oh well, time will tell. It's only for one year.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

As mentioned we published a news story outlining the problems that Co-operative Energy been facing and there is a user warning on all Energy Club members' results page.

Energy Club provides details of all available tariffs on the market, we don't endorse a Co-op tariff over any other.

The top pick tariffs have been selected by our editorial team, who review the tariffs available on the market: "The other tabs are in price order, but below are our top pick fixes with some extra help on choosing the right tariff. We're not telling you to get these tariffs, we're just saying 'don't miss them'."

Co-operative Energy no longer feature in the top picks but if you need some help and you're struggling to get through to Co-operative Energy you could try submitting your query through the online form.

    https://www.cooperativeenergy.coop/customer-service/contact-us/email-us/

If you're still encountering problems following contact from Co-op, email us at energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com and we’ll see what we can do to help.

That's not true, it was implied that Co-op was the best thing to move to *over* another supplier as it was mentioned they had problems with customer service but were cheaper at the time I made the switch and that it was a "top pick". That counts as an endorsement in my mind.

Unfortunately I didn't screenshot this part of the process but in future I won't be bothering with your advice or cheap energy club and will let someone else get the kick back. The reason for this is the attitude shown on this thread which is taking the view that it's the customers fault.

Unfortunately, the online forms are never answered. The only way to contact Co-op energy is via a 30 minutes to 1 hour wait on their customer services number (as other members will no doubt atest to).

We all follow advice from MSE in switching tariffs. If that turns out to be a disaster, then MSE owes it to us, its members, to fight our corner and contact Ofgem on our behalf. (you profited from our switch afterall)

Lets face it, as individuals, we've got very little chance of being taken seriously by the
regulator, but MSE would pack a fairly hefty punch.
  • Hi Cleudo,

It's disappointing to hear that you're unable to get in touch with Co-operative Energy. If you send us an email at energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com with details of the problems you've faced we'll take this up with Co-operative Energy.
