    Dogs aren't idiots

If his illness demands a change of diet fair enough but otherwise he's mugging you!

Stick with the things you know he likes, if he doesn't eat it just take it away... no table scraps.

Please do this one thing for your dog just once.

Get a bone from a High St butcher, explain that it's for your dog.

Cut or smash the bone so's you can scrape out the marrow. Put this marrow on a small plate in the fridge. It would help if you can do this in the presence of your dog but under NO circumstances should you offer it the marrow at this stage. It would help if you didn't even acknowledge the dogs presence at this stage.

Now feed your dog its regular food.

If your dog turns its nose up to the regular food, offer it the marrow.

If it eats the marrow then reply here. I can help you get back to regular feeding routine.

If it doesn't eat the marrow, please consult a vet at your earliest opportunity.

Be careful with bone marrow though, it's very rich for dogs who aren't used to it.

I'm a raw feeder so not much use with brands but concerned that a lot of the ones available from supermarkets are full of rubbish, 'animal derivatives', sugars and fats.

Have you tried Lily's Kitchen? Not sure if that ones been mentioned. It could also be worth diving his food up into more meals through the day.

If it were my own dog I'd be inclined to offer the food and then remove and withhold until the next meal time, but unsure if his cancer would have any bearing on things like this. Maybe worth checking if any meds he's on can affect appetite? I'm sure if I had a poor appetite for a meal I'd still manage a bag of maltesers which must be the equivalent of enjoying some human food scraps for a dog.

Thankyou, not going to try the marrow
The only meds he's on is for his arthritis
Yes we've tried lilys, the dry not the wet as they used to like it when I could afford but he won't touch it now
Also got some pure pet food as we sometimes got this as a nice topper to kibble now and then but again he won't touch it now
If he was feeling so rank that his cancer had taken his appetite ,you would think he would refuse everything
His scrambled egg tonight I put about 6 bits of kibble in so he wouldn't eat the egg, I took them out and he ate it!

Bone marrow is the sole reason why dogs chew bones.

Do you not give your dog a bone?

I find your post VERY confusing & from someone who claims to raw feed their dog !

Just because dogs like the taste of it, doesn't mean it's without its side effects. Bone marrow can have quite a laxative effect, not really advisable for a dog already suffering diarrhea.

I raw-fed too, and yes, my dogs get bones. But marrow bones don't have all that much nutritional value, mine get them for recreational purposes occasionally, but for the nutritional aspect I use bones like chicken carcasses, ribs, and so on.

My dogs get a knuckle bone every week.

They certainly get more than a little marrow.

They chew the fat and grissle of it, lick out any marrow( not much on a knuckle bone) and then gnaw on the actual bone grinding it away.

But bone marrow is very rich and can cause can cause diarrhea in a dog who is not used to eating it.

So I thought I'd do tough love to see, put down this this morning handful of dampened kibble and spoon of Cesar
Not interested so I've offered it through the day without giving him anything instead
By 7pm I gVe in and he ate half a tray of Cesar ,but that's nothing is it?
He is fine on a walk, digging rAbbit holes etc
I'm going to ring vet tomorrow
