Does wife own half of everything

Options
Guys I brought a property myself (mortgage) two months before I got married. I have now been in the property 9 months. Wife has never paid for anything, only married 6 months and I left for a short time as we argued a lot. She now registered matrimonial rights on my property so now I can't sell unless she agrees I think. Even though she hasn't paid a penny is she entitled to anything?

Chances are they'll put you back to the financial state you were each in when you met. Same happened with me after a couple of years (had been together a few altogether).

    See a solicitor asap.

This notice basically just means that you can't sell until you have agreed a financial settlement. It doesn't mean that she will get anything.

With such a short marriage, as others have said, the settlement would usually be to put you back where you were at the start.

I think it also provides for occupation rights so you can't kick her out onto the street before the divorce is finalised (and these can be extended by court order).

did you live together before you got married? if not, it is highly unlikely that she will be entitled to half, although she may be entitled to something, particularly if she gave up a secure tenancy in order to marry you.
Assuming you did not live together before the marriage then the likely outcome is that you will each get back what you put in. If this leaves her with nothing then you may have to pay a small lump sum so she can put down a rental deposit rather than be left homeless.

    See a solicitor ASAP

In which case, I suggest that your start divorce proceedings ASAP. You can download the documents from the courts web-site and pay the court fees. No need for a lawyer for that; head over to wikidivorce.

You do need a lawyer to help you deal with the matramonial rights. You also need advice on how to make absolutely sure that she cannot claim harassment or intimidation etc to get you thrown out.
