Please help- what would you do?

I have been given £40 worth of Sainsburys vouchers and £35 worth of Amazon vouchers :j

I am planning on spending all of the Sainsburys voucher, and about £20 of the Amazon voucher, on food.

How do i work this into my GC? It will significantly reduce the money that i spend on food for the next few months, so do i just declare the money that comes from my own money, or include the voucher spends with my GC if you see what i mean?

I would just count this a lucky month and not take it off my grocery spends, they were given to you afterall. But that's just how I would see it.

Or you can subtract the amount and put the equal amount of money into your savings

May I come back into the challenge again as I need to get a grip. I have been helping my DD out following her split with her OH who left her with no money. This has put my own saving/debt payments back a bit so I need to recover ASAP. I am aiming for £300 in April but this must also cover a £100 payment to the cc and a haircut for me £25 so things will be tight. Lucky for me the freezer and cupboard are reasonably stocked so not impossible. Also my big advantage is that OH oftens pops into the shops for me and never asks for the money. There are just the 2 of us.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.
  • Hi everyone,
I'll be coming over here at the start of April. Could you please put me down as $450 again? Thanks! Still more than I think we should be/need to be spending but *certain people* don't seem to have budgeting in their vocabulary. :rotfl:
    March 2020 grocery challenge $921.76/$500AU
    April 2020 grocery challenge $744/$800
    May 2020 GC $724.11/$750
    June 2020 GC $370.31/$700
    July 2020 GC $316.87/$700
  • So, first shop of the month the other day from Mr S came in at £51.26, which I was a little surprised at. I had things like Balsamic vinegar, nice feta, etc in my trolley (plus a couple of pregnancy related treats).

Going to go and grab something out of the freezer today me thinks. Maybe the bacon that I bought, stashed, and forgot about. :o A nice BLT will do us good. It will also use the reduced baps that I bought, stashed, and forgot about :o (hmmm, developing a theme. Might need to do an inventory and list for the freezers).

Off to update the old signature.
How long til pay day?

Thanks again to everyone who works so hard on this thread, its very much appreciated.

I am in again for £250 this month.
I am still struggling to work out the best way to do my shopping. I am thinking a bit shop at the beginning of the month, for non-perishables and toiletries etc, and then weekly shops for fruit and veg.

That's what I've done this month but it doesn't seem to make it any cheaper! Going to try fortnightly this month with a weekly top up of fresh foods.

My main problem is feeling like i need to 'treat' myself on a Friday night, with a bottle of wine, some chocolate and other crap. This does my waistline as well as my wallet NO GOOD AT ALL. So that is the 1st thing that has to stop. Wish me luck!

Have you thought about having a separate budget for your "treats" rather than taking it from your grocery challenge money. Perhaps reduce your GC by £30, for example, and using that for treats during the month?

I always buy my wine when on holiday so it comes from my holiday budget but has to last for anything up to 6 months! depending how often we manage to get across to France.
