Typically I've found credit cards have Mr <Initials> <Surname> whereas debit cards have Mr <Firstname> <Surname> (I have no middle names).

I hate my full firstname (anyone who knows me wouldn't use the full name) so I prefer Mr <Initials> <Surname>.

I really dislike it when I call places and they insist on calling me by my full first name. Metro Bank did it when I popped in last week; I cringed every time she said it.

Wow, what is it then? Cant be that bad surely! Were your parents that cruel?
  • On my card its <initial> <initial> <surname> with HSBC. I have absolutely no idea if I had a choice. I was 13 when I opened my account and didn't receive a card until I was 16 anyway which was just posted to me. Never had any problems.

Biblical name. The longer version was only ever used as a kid when I was in trouble so I sort of wince when it's used ;)

Metro Bank seem to be trained to use a (potential) customer's first name.

How many of those of us want to be addressed by our first name by a bank clerk who has just met us and been told the surname?

All my debit cards are title, initial and surname except TSB which is my full name (with title)

All my credit cards are title, first name and surname except my Barclaycard which has no title.

Both my Co-op and Barclays debit cards are Miss *initials* then my 'original' surname- I find it easier to refer to it as my 'maiden' surname although I'm not married (long story)
My Halifax debit card is my full first name and my 'new' double barrelled surname. I find it a bit strange though that OH's Barclays debit card just has his two initials then his surname- no Mr but mine has Miss on it. (Not a joint a/c) his HSBC has Mr then his initials and surname though.

    Mine is initial initial surname

    So... J A Bloggs

But before I got my replacement card it was Mr Jason Bloggs with my full first name and last, no mention of my second name.

I'm with NatWest and the change occurred in the summer when I got my contactless card. Not saying it has anything to do with that service, but that's when I noticed a change.

I opened my account in 2010
