    I like your goals!

We just have one (based on spreadsheet calculations) for mortgage OP. I should come up with others for the other things we plan to do next year - buy a car, finish the house redecorating, etc.

Just delurking to ask if you can attach your recorder to the TV via a scart lead. I have 3 things attached to my TV and when I turn the TV on it automatically goes to the scart lead one, with a very quick flash on the TV. It's as quick as flicking a light switch on & off so couldn't be classed as watching live TV. Of course that may not work with your TV or your player may be integral, but we don't lose marks for trying in this life only for not bothering.

  • I thought that a month in hand, was having savings to pay everything a month in hand, so that you have a bit of a safety net.

I love making goals. :D My current goal is to survive the next hour!

My Mum is round so I'm getting some time on the computer. My inner geek is struggling with the lack of screen time.

You've done really well so far with your 2015 goals. Don't worry about how you will pay the big amounts, just concentrate on the next small amount and the big amount will sort itself out.

  • Great goals!

I also want to OP £2k on the mortgage next year but not sure about other goals yet... The house needs work doing, I should set a decorating target :)

Is the month in hand fund like an emergency fund?
  • Mortgage paid and balance is now £112,681.30 and another £100 OP'd on it..

I'm joking re the month in hand fund, I know what one is, just haven't got anywhere near my target at all.. I know I should have one, so maybe I do need to chase down that target next year.

All got sniffles and colds in this household and now our family visiting is done for this half term, I'm looking forward to a relaxing week of just playing with the littlies and not having to be anywhere at any specific time!

  • Good luck with the household lurgy - we may be coming down with things here but I'm holding out hope.

I think the struggle with the month-in-hand fund is that it seems pretty pointless until you need it. Surely it would be better served going towards debt? (says my inner self)...until the boiler breaks or there's a flat tyre or what-have-you and you really wish you'd saved one and kept it sitting around!

(If it helps, we try and leverage ours a bit by having a month-in-hand earning interest and using the interest as OPs - at least then it's working for us a tiny bit as well as sitting around being available.)
