badmemory said:Just watch that they will let you stay on the SVR if you change your meter type. Obviously I don't know but these energy companies are crafty types, got to watch them every step of the way. It is only a couple of years ago (before it all went to pot) that someone had a real big fight after being on a fixed rate & agreed to have one of these new meters & got charged at the full rate for power. Will the leccy bill come down again as you get off the prepayment meter? Nasty things! What's the insulation like? As for alternatives, I'm sure Cheery had a ground source heat pump installed, can't remember when, but if you search the words on her diary, you should find them.DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

I think Cheery may have just talked about a heat pump. Have a feeling she's still got a boiler on LPGMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Hope everyone is ok after the storm. We are coming up to 24 hours of no power which has been interesting. Will be very grateful for a cuppa at some point. Makes you wonder how much we should prepare ourselves for time off the grid. Our house survey arrived with some interesting points made. Definitely room for renegotiation with our seller but we need to get a few quotes for repairs first. It didn’t raise any massive issues that we weren’t expecting just more the urgency of getting the work done. It’s never a smooth ride is it!DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

Sorry to hear your powers been off, hopefully it will be sorted soon.
Glad there is no major issues with the house, fingers crossed you are able to renegotiate.
Have a good weekend xx5 -
Rocking on for 30 hours without power so super grateful when it came back on. Though tonight is just as windy out there it feels.House move has developed but I just can’t deal with it right now. With that, power cuts and a few other issues this weekend I’m worn out and feeling beaten.DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

Feeling antsy tonight so thought I’d start work on the end of month figures and noticed that we now own another 1% of the house. 80% is all ours and the bank only has 20%.Being pedantic though, based on what we sold the house for they actually only have 19% and we have 81%.I can tell I’m in a funny mood as I’m emptied the airing cupboard and tidied it up. Few towels and blankets sorted for the charity shop as well.DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)
