  • great day all round. You made me have another look at santander. On the credit card we'd be looking at a minimum of £86 (but then need to subtract the £24 fee). The current account would get us £56 before the £24 fees over the year.

Are you tempted SJ? You'd still be in profit wouldn't you?

i'm definitely tempted. I just need a plan to make sure i get the £35 cashback from quidco. My little issue is that i need to keep my main account with FD as my mortgage has to come out of it, With my 7 other current accounts i also don;t have any that i'm willing to sacrifice (i will have my NW one in March, but i had that earmarked to sacrifice to somewhere else!). SO i was wondering if they would accept a partial switch of council tax, mobiles and telephone). Just need a plan!

  • I'm seriously having anxiety about spending today! We had lunch out as we had the refund from our holiday, but we also have dinner out tomorrow with friends and breakfast on Sunday - probably about £100 in all.. we are still £220 up, but it's making me feel awful spending.. what is MSE doing to me.

On the flip side, £37 banked from the money boxes the grandparents bought down and off CC2,

We are also going to use CC1 for any additional spending during our week off and let CC2 have the full benefit of the refund, so balance is actually £1,007.69 but I have to find £7.70 from somewhere to get me into three figures before the end of the month.

Revised target for next month is now sub £600 with plan for this to be gone by 31 October 2015.

Also agreed with family that we won't buy presents for Christmas, and will give my stepkids and their partners money / gift cards, so only need to find £150, buy two presents for my dad / stepmum and finish off the little people. Quite chuffed with that as it massively takes the pressure off shopping and buying stuff. Not something I usually do to give money, but I figure for one year, it's ok.

Finishing the week at £25 on OP, £42 on YG and £4.10 on p-base.

Must remember to do food order tonight!

  • I should add, I keep a log of all the money we 'borrow' from the little people and it will be repaid with interest when the mortgage is gone, just in case anyone thinks I'm a dreadful parent! :rotfl:

Though little man took some persuading to bank his money as he wasn't convinced the bank manager would remember to give it him back when he needed it!

Aww bless. I don't have any savings for my kids - I reckon I'll save up for their future once the mortgage is gone.

  • I switched to 1-2-3 in March 2014 and I've never looked back. It's been great and the cashback since I opened it has been £267.84 (after the £2 fees) - better in my pocket than theirs!

I took out the 1-2-3 Credit card too with 18 month 0% on purchases so I ran it up to the credit balance and kept the cash in the current account to ensure I got 3% on that. It's coming to an end now so it'll go back to being used as I would a debit card, to still get the cashback. So far I've made £103.68 (£79.68 after the £24 fee)

All in all, it's been a good move.

  • Thanks Thistle - that's helpful to know. thanks for popping in as well!

Sarahevie, we didn't really, just money that is gifted to them when they were born and at birthdays and christmas. Figure it's best used to clear debt which in the long term is better for them!

  • Promising to be a nice day here and a load of washing on the line already! :T

Bit of work on the garden this morning and the rest of day is beach with friends when they arrive and tea at the beach as well.

In other news, I've pinched a few pennies here and there from other accounts and have £8.85 to pay off CC2 bringing it to £998.84 :j:j

Soooo happy to be seeing three figures on that!
