Is or isn't Scotland a country?
If the people of Yorkshire voted to become a country, could they? What about a town within Yorkshire? Can London vote to become a country and leave England? Why are some lines more important than others, apart from sentimental reasons?0 -

It was a simple enough question to answer, or so I thought.......0 -

I have patiently waited for anyone in the scots nats camp to explain what they mean by claiming they are a 'country / nation'
when did they become a country?
how did they become a country?
was it a democratic process?
does it endow the people there will special super human powers?
does it make the people there, superior to a non country like the people of Yorkshire?
is their status recognised in international law e.g. a seat in the UN?
does it mean they are entitled to high block grant than the people of yorkshire?
or what other special privileges are they 'entitled' to?
does the world owe them a living?0 -

No. The UK is a country.
See I was under the impression that the UK was made up of 4 countries .. GB made up of 3 of which Scotland lends to the Great bit
But that's OK I spose ... spose I will need to get used to thinking of England as a region beneath Scotland ... shame I preferred England as a country as well
What's Britain then ? Is it a country ? And what's Great Britain ? Is it a country ? There's an awful lot going on for such a small place really ain't there0 -

no, the Uk is NOT made up of 4 sovereign states/nations/countries
it is made up of 4 geopolitical regions which sometime choose to call themselves nations but this has no more legal status that an US State or German State.
The sum of the 4 is however a sovereign nation which is recognised in international law.0 -

Not according to Wiki.
Hmm, who to believe.....
I think the question was is Scotland a country?
Is England a country?
The answer is yes.
The UK combined is a sovereign nation but there are 4 separate countries within it.
