I know hard to believe that the question was
" Should Scotland be independent " and not
" Should the Scottish people be independent "
Geography not nationality ... Who would've thunk it
That's an interesting yet irrelevant distinction you make there.
The Scottish people voted by a clear majority to remain British, get over it.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

Yes they did. But strangely, loads are still voting SNP.. who'd have thunk that either. Get over it.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
I looked at that link (yes all of it) and have to say that I have similar criticism of the House of Lords although hearing Wishart it's clear that the SNP as usual is blind to both sides of any argument. As I wrote before I too think reform is necessary but am radical in a different way to his approach. It's a substantial subject and not one for here I think so I'll just say briefly, to give a flavour of my views, that I think ALL members of the House of Lords should be required to sign an oath that they will discharge their duties according to their own conscience and not follow instructions from any body outside the House. So that would include any Party, any Religion or any other pressure group. Further I would aim for a meritocracy, not career politicians members garnered from politics, but those with expert experience from the whole range of areas of endeavour whether they be engineering, medical, welfare, finance, fishing etc etc and yes, even politics and religion although how the latter would vow not to be influenced by their Church is an interesting matter. They can be recommended by anyone and yes voted on if people think it important. Primacy of the House of Commons should be paramount but the House of Lords should be able to demand rethinks as is the case now. I would hope thereby to avoid time begin wasted because of a mismatch in political dogma between Lords and the Commons. I don't care whether they wear wigs or are called Lords or whatever.
I must say that Wishart had a lot to say on something about which he declared himself uninvolved.
He had other things to say here. He took up most of that interview complaining that English Votes etc took up too much time and it was interesting to here him give the same arguments so faithfully parroted by SNP apparatchiks here.
As for the rest of your post re myopic etc, you are, of course, entitled to your own (wrong) opinion but I note that the reply had again nothing to do with the point I raised which was that
"the SNP ..is stirring up discord between Scotland and the rest of the UK".
String, you are entitled to your views & opinions but your bias against snp means you can't be impartial. If it were a labour or lib MP that gave the speech Pete did would you be quite so fast to criticise? He did repeat a little sometimes but the essence of what he said made perfect sense. You stated before snp would like HOL abolished completely so no-one can hamper or deny any of their policies but that wasn't what Pete said.
Again, I'd reiterate its their goal for Scotland to be an independent nation so if the rest of the UK and union supporters get upset about that what is the solution? Do the snp just give up on their goal? You know that's nonsense don't you?
Oh, cheers for watching the link, 30 minutes might have put some off. I will watch yours later and respond.0 -
Are there any English issues that have absolutely no impact on Scotland?
Happy to help !
14 October 2013Tom Greatrex, Labour MP for Rutherglen & Hamilton West, who obtained and analysed the figures from the House of Commons Library, warned that Westminster would become paralysed if every Bill had to be stripped of anything that affected other parts of the UK. This analysis blows apart the idea, promoted by some Tory MPs and commentators, that there is a significant amount of legislation passed by Scottish and Welsh MPs on English matters," he added.
"The West Lothian question may be easy to ask and difficult to answer, but the reality is that it is only relevant in less than 1% of the legislation passed by Westminster (over the last decade)."It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Nothing to get over, couldn't give a stuff.
Don't confuse my posting on this thread with any real interest in Scottish politics, well no more than any other single region of the UK anyway. Like many English people the subsidy Scotland receives irritates and that's about it as regards my interest.
I'd be a bit more interested if you were about to leave the Union, but that ain't happening any time in my lifetime.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

Further powers within the union will do just fine.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
