So Sturgeon says she is going to do something on tax credits. Does anyone know what they might be? It will be very interesting to know what her priorities are.

I presume our SNP conributers know. Any ideas?

Yep I would agree ... does kinda look like she has been caught on the back foot so far ... but she has a tendency to work her way around it

Nope I think you will find it says Scottish ... unless your suggesting all people living in Scotland that pay taxes are SNP members ?

Tis loyal of you to try and dig Shakey out of a hole, but I think you've fallen into it yourself; maybe you can quote the exact post you claim shows anti-Scotish sentiments, other than SNP remarks.

That as may be. And I'm not pushing the case either way. However, lots do view tax credits as am employers subsidy. I was simply pointing out that while Scottish Labour are promising to reverse tax credit cuts penny for penny lost to all.... while there are those, like myself who are uncomfortable with the thought of mitigating cuts from Westminster ( and should that prove to become the 'norm' over the next few years, would obviously prefer independence )....There are those who see 'reversing tax credit cuts' as a subsidy to employers/too generous to those working part time/self-employed etc and have no idea why Scottish Labour would to want reverse any of these cuts. Especially with the 'living wage' coming in.

The inconvenient truth is that "cuts" are on the way. Whether they are UK Government inflicted, reduced funding from the EU or as a result of increased global competition. The National Living Wage may yet be Osborne's biggest folly. As combined with auto enrollment for pensions for employers. The increased cost may hit the sectors least able to cope extremely hard. In particular Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure. Scotland must rely heavily on these sectors for economic activity. There's a squeeze on the way that's unavoidable.

Erm I did .... read my post quoting him

I didnt see how the Convo progressed after the post from Shakey till after I had posted the reply quoting sheky ... but I have found Gen several times now of accusing SNP supporters of being anti English ... he is sadly showing his true colours

I like Gen he's a nice guy ? But he seriously needs to understand the truth instead of what's easier for him to believe

You appear to be suggesting that the English get the cuts whereas the Scots don't get cuts yet don't pay any extra tax.

You appear to be suggesting that Scottish Governments from now on, raise income tax every time Westminster makes a UK wide cut ?

Why on earth should they do that ? Actually, half of Scotland would like to know that at the moment too I should imagine. Slightly more than half are beginning to wonder why they voted No only to have their taxes punted up. That was only supposed to happen with a Yes vote.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Shouldn't we all wait until the UK know what George Osborne is going to do with tax credits first ? Basics. Crystal Balls aren't given out to MSP's as far as I know ( though Labour might disagree).

I think Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP's 'priorities' are to oppose the tax credits cuts altogether. Until Osborne makes a new proposal and the HOC vote on it once again. There's little point in getting your knickers in a twist over anything until then.

The issue is that, if the Scottish Government believes that the people of Scotland need/deserve more benefits than those of England, then they should raise tax in Scotland.

Why is that unreasonable : it is exactly what an independent Scotland would have to do.

Sounds as if your scared of the consequences. That it may dent the relentless march for Scottish independence. If the Scottish Government had to raise the revenue to fund it's promises. As the tide goes out will become easier to see whose swimming without any trunks on.
