Our resident SNP supporters appear to be ignoring this one Hamish. ;)

    Why am I not surprised...

Well then, like I said. If there's the possibility of another referendum in the next SNP manifesto, then that 69% will simply vote for another party Hamish. What's the problem with that ?

I think I know what the problem is. And it's this. It's the fact that the SNP most likely will get another majority in May, with the possibility of another referendum mandated within their manifesto. And people like you think there will be a Yes vote if there is one. Which is why there's such fright being taken at the possibility of another ref in the next 5/10 years. We must at all costs stop it. Not because NO think they will win again. It's because they think they'll lose.

The Vow, Better Together and the Smith Commission all claimed great change and new 'extensive' powers to Scotland over the last few years. Nothing much is coming Scotland's way. A 'pick n mix' of the very least that can be offered or 'allowed', every amendment to the Scotland Bill voted down ( by the Tories) from Labour/Lib Dems and the SNP. Well it's not nearly enough.. because if it was. The SNP would be sinking like a stone right now. And they're not.

At the end of the day, Gordon Brown shouldn't have been throwing about phrases like 'Home Rule' and 'Federalism' on wall to wall 24/7 news and media coverage before the vote. With Cameron/Miliband and Clegg's full approval. Nor should BetterTogether have been promoting all sorts of 'better/safer/faster change' with Ruth/Johann and Alistair fronting the promises for months previously. The below is your problem right there. We all watched it.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
  • Talk of another referndum is premature.
    The time is not right.
If I were a betting person I would say late 2020 / early 2021, just after Labour lose the UK general election and George Osbourne becomes PM.

On a side note the mood is changing - was in a regular customers house who voted NO last year ( I talk about politics with my customers but still give the same service / prices). She is now a SNP member and very pro Indy- she has a family of 5 who are 4/5 YES.
There will be a change - the older generation (over 70 years old) that voted NO because the papers and the BBC told them to are leaving us and being replaced by yes voters, In 4 years time my family may have 5 yes voters ( at the referendum it had 3) my son is now 16 and a SNP member and my daughter is now 12 and will be 16 (voting age in Scotland) in 4 years time.

For every no voter that leaves there are 1.5 yes voters to replace them, it is a matter of time- those above 65 are the only age deomgraphic to vote against independence.
    baldly going on...

Not to worry, my niece, her husband and kids have just moved back here. All will vote No. So think that will balance out your family Lol.

Incidentally 3 generations of my family voted No, age grouped between 70's to 18. If a Ref is held in 2021, will have great grandchildren old enough to vote. Have no idea if they will vote or what for, as politics are of no interest to them just now.

But they will not be influenced by happy, clappy , flag and banner SNP balloon family days out or events. Politics should play no part in the lives of such young children.

And you are wrong on the over 65 demographic being the only one which voted No. You've been reading too much social media propaganda .

That's all well and good. But did you also explain that in clear detail ie for next decade and the level of cuts which would be needed to their welfare payments, schools and council services., to all the people in the deprived areas you canvassed in?
