Of course it was more complex than that but the SNP thrust was to fool voters into thinking they would be better off. Had the Yes vote won the day you guys would have been peering over an abyss with the rUK so pi**ed off they would have been unhappily pushing you over.

I certainly didn't think I would be better off ... I was well.aware.we.would suffer financially, so we're many of the people I campaigned with, we thought it a sacrifice work having

Former cabinet ministers: Scotland could become independent in the near future

Two former cabinet ministers have both warned that Scotland could become independent in the near future, despite last year's 'No' vote.
Former Liberal Democrat deputy prime minister Nick Clegg today warns that the 2017 European Union referendum also risks the break-up of the United Kingdom.
His party colleague Sir Vince Cable also said there was a real risk of Scotland "going its own way" if the Conservatives remain in power at Westminster for too long...

...Sir Vince told a fringe meeting at the conference that Scotland could vote to become independent if it looks like the Conservatives are in power indefinitely. He said: "The overwhelming majority of people in Scotland do not want a Tory Government.
"The things which have been holding them back so far, which are the sensible economic reasons, may not be sufficient to keep Scotland in the Union.

I also reckon Henry McLeish ( former First Minister ) was one of those Labour members who was actually pro-independence last year. We were all waiting on an announcement that never came from his comments in the lead up. Looks like he's looking for 'permission to come out '. ;)
A FORMER Labour First Minister has called on Kezia Dugdale to provide clarity after she said her party's politicians would be free to campaign for independence in a future referendum.
Henry McLeish, who led the country between 2000 and 2001, said it would be a "historic" change of position for Scottish Labour to adopt a flexible position on independence.

"Is this an accommodation before the Holyrood election politically? Is it an attempt still to defeat independence, or indeed are we accommodating independence? I think this would be a remarkable decision but I think we need to have much more clarification".
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

The comment from Vince Cable is interesting (sorry..Sir Vince).

If Scotland were to become independent wouldn't this just reinforce a Conservative majority position? Labour, without the Scottish seats, will struggle to win a majority.

And it's also counter to the LinDen thrust at the moment which is to supplant Labour as the moderate lefties.

But his comment is typical of the self-seeking bile aimed at the Tories by opposition parties, a bonus for Sturgeon I'm sure.

EVEL and new constituency boundries ( in the Tories favour ) will take care of that anyway in England, as far as Tories winning majorities/having a final say ( even if Labour have more UK MP's but not in England ) go.
