Salmond and Sturgeon Want the English Fish for More Fat Subsidies

Did the Constitution change? I realise I'm out of touch over here in Aus as I only called the referendum and the general election correctly which you called incorrectly.
Does the SNP now have the power to call a binding referendum or are you just making it up again? It was made clear by both sides that the last referendum was a once in a generation opportunity to put this to bed and the result was conclusive. The SNP can cling to power for as long as Londoners are prepared to pay for their follies but they can't make them pay for another referendum.
The Vow, Cameron's EVEL bid the day afterwards and then the General Election changed things. Salmond and Sturgeon certainly thought at the time it was a 'once in a generation' event. I think everyone did ( as did I ). But events... that's politics for you. We don't think so now.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
it was made clear in the last referendum that there would be a "vow" kept..that didnt happen either ...
see the thing your forgetting is ... it will be the people that will decide, alot of politicians seem to forget it is the people that put them in power ( unless ofcourse it is rigged ... and well I have still to be totally convinced that it either was or wasnt first time round)
The movement you are currently seeing is coming from the people, yes it may be media led and yes the politicians may be stoking the flames ... but the people are doing the shouting ... And much as maybe Shake and the SNP want ... they aint gonna shut up.
Rise has now formed, which will split the Yes camp vote, not a huge fan of Rise myself but I can see they are popular already, they wont be the only political party to form ( as I have previously stated) I do wish they would wait till after indy though, but I can only assume they are so fed up with the SNP they want to offer their alternative Yes alliance
Will be interesting to see how Sturgeon handles Rise tbh
I think she'll just ignore them pretty much. They're going after the wrong targets imo. And are ahead of their time.. plenty of scope for their party after independence if it happens. At the moment they just make an SNP majority in Holyrood less likely, and unionist MSP's more likely ( splitting the vote in PR elections isn't the same as splitting the vote in FPTP ).
But yes, interesting to see where they'll go with things. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

The articles claimed that was the case. Until they do that is just speculation.
If that had been the case, there would be no need whatsover for Cameron to have to give in on things like 'purdah' in order to appease Tory rebels in case they vote with Labour against him. And he has.
So it was fact.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

There you go talking for the whole Scottish nation again.
Seemingly no consideration on your part for the circa 45-55% of Scots who are probably growing heartily sick of the neverendum agenda of the SNP and their acolytes like you.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

I agree they are way way way before their time and I do worry that people will vote for them, I think they have been born out of frustration tbh, I did imagine lots of new parties forming after Indy, I can see the CW and even WFI ( but in another guise obviously) and even RIC forming parties ... but it is too early for them just now and wish they would be more patient.
I'm kinda hoping people go for a SNP 1 Green 2 vote, but we will see0 -
Nice one. Rigged.
I've even thanked your post because it gave me a laugh.
Again manipulating things till they turn out the way you want them... Sigh
For the record, I am not sure whether the indy ref was or wasnt rigged... I dont actually know ... and have to see deffinitive proof of either
now go and twist and manipulate that ... you know you want to0 -
Shakethedisease wrote: »Most referendums held in this country are advisory. There will be no means of preventing one should the Scottish Government decide to hold one. Only legal challenges afterwards. However, it's up for debate on exactly what grounds there would be to challenge the result if a majority of Scots vote for independence in a free and fair referendum. Advisory or not.
...
In that case, why don't you have a referendum every year. Chances are, people will get bored eventually and submit to ticking the Yes box.
Can you make it last 2 weeks of July / early August though please?
We usually take our holidays then.0 -
then we can have referendums on them rejoining
I've never understood how when it effects all members of the UK that only people who happen to live north of the wall get a say. Surely we should get a vote?Left is never right but I always am.0 -

You ever thought of maybe having your own independence referendum ? ... Dont think you will find many wanting to re join after we finally go tbh ... but hey I could be wrong0 -
I would love a 'should we keep scotland referendum' - I would vote NO and get rid of the financial burdenLeft is never right but I always am.0
