Can't speak for Scotland, but in my part of the rUK its ok and feels like it's getting better all the time. England is generally speaking at ease with itself within the UK set up and in most other areas too and if Scotland left I don't see much in the way of negative consequences for the rUK at least.
Thats interesting you say that as I am just back from Blackpool and that was just heartbreaking to watch, to let you understand Blackpool is not my idea of fun, it never has been, however I was there for a specific reason, whilst there I was shocked at how much the place has went to the dogs, my heart goes out to the people living there.
I am also in touch with family members and friends that live in England and they tell me things that would indicate that England has the same problems as the rest of the UK, I do wonder if people walk about blind sometimes0 -

Unless you talk specifics I don't really know what you mean.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

I doubt no worse than the Glasgow sink estates. Or odd pockets that exist across the UK. Blackpool will rejuvenate one day. When someone with the vision and money takes the challenge on. Then people will be displaced and simply move on to somewhere new.0 -

oh I agree there are worse places, but then I am not the one that said England is doing fine am I0 -
And yet you assumed that I had and answered anyway ... as I say interestingoh I agree there are worse places, but then I am not the one that said England is doing fine am I
No need to be quite so chippy!
I responded to your feelings of despair for Scotland and the rUK by saying that wasn't my experience. I only asked for specifics to aid the debate and because you accused me of walking around blind!
I never said England was doing fine, I said my part of the UK was ok and getting better, which incidentally may or may not be the case for the rest of England.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

I don't see how we can relate Blackpool to the current economic state. The decline goes back longer and deeper.
The tourism sector shifted focus decades ago and Blackpool is a town which is still adjusting to that shift. There was a tv show about Margate not so long ago and the feel was exactly the same.
If we finally embrace fracking in the NW then there will be reinjection of cash into a place like Blackpool.0 -

I think Blackpool was a usefully remembered example of English 'decline'.
You're spot on though, Blackpool at one end of the scale is about as relevant as somewhere like Salcombe is at the other.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
I suppose Blackpool is like Dundee in Scotland: a place where the economy has moved on but the workforce hasn't.
In Dundee, as far as I could see, one of the better jobs was handing out Giros and then most of the rest of the working population was working in cheap booze 'n' fagz shops. There are huge machines to make steel or iron ships in Sydney Harbour that were made in Dundee in the late C19th and I'm sure there is many a rusting hulk made by the grandfathers of the men of Dundee.
Similarly, nobody is going to go to NW England for a coastal holiday unless climate change really gets out of hand and let's face it, if things get that bad we'll be taking a beach holiday in Preston or Warrington instead.0 -
Was at a SNP meeting tonight, it was hailed as a thank you/ask your MP a question type meeting.
It was interesting, the MP sounded sincere and I am not suggesting for one minute the MP wasn't, however, I had worked with the MP throughout the YES campaign, I am gonna be honest, the person that stood before me was not the person I campaigned with, the person has started toe-ing the party line and was if anything less bolshie and nicer (wasnt too impressed with them whilst campaigning)
I came away thinking " man I am glad I didnt join the SNP" Much as I didnt like the person too much I respected them more and thought " what a bloody character " as opposed to " what a bloody Zealot"
I still think they are the best Scotland currently has but I am starting to despair for Scotland and the rest of the UK tbh
Great lines and great ideals but ....
I am starting to fear we may be becoming the whole monkey dressed in red with a labour rosette being voted in to a monkey dressed in yellow with a SNP rosette
I came away more frustrated about the state of our collection of countries ... Maybe I should stand for MSP after all .... Nah dont think they would know what to do with me:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
But rest assured, your anarchist predilections are safe, the SNP are still the Scottish Nasty Party.Union, not Disunion
I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.0
