Are you actually going to go through each Government agency and department?0 -
With devotion comes responsibility so the concept would be that Scotland was responsible for the defense of Scotland? or Glasgow or what?
How many destroyers would Scotland provide (pay for) to defend the whole of Scotland? How many aircraft, how many soldiers and tanks.
Hint: 1 destroyer costs over £1billion, 1 Typhoon casts $125million
Or would the (reduced) budget you assume pay for nothing but armoured sofas to hide behind? Plus flags of course.
ISTL- You're out of your mind on this one.
You don't have to be out of your mind to consider concepts out of the box.
My point is that there are already RAF bases (Leuchars / Lossimouth etc), Infantry (Edinburgh, Kinloss etc) and Naval bases (Faslane etc) in Scotland.
These bases and regiments can still join up as part of a UK defence force, but still unsure why the responsibility for running and maintaining this could not be devolved.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

You don't have to be out of your mind but it helps.
This is simply so silly that I'm ducking out of discussing it.Union, not Disunion
I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.0 -

what do you think the advantages will be to the security of the UK and (if that doesn't matter) to Scotland?
who would determine the level of funding for the forces?
who would decide deployment?0 -

Do you believe the Coastguard could be a devolved responsibility or not though?
This is ridiculous. HM Armed forces are stationed in the crown territory of Scotland to stifle dissent and put down rebellion.
We can't outsource your own oppression to you. That would be ridiculous. Thats what lost us India and it isn't happening again.0 -
Thank god for a bit of light relief, this thread is like a panto script......oh no it's not, oh yes it is! Much respect to the staying power of the contributors though. The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don't know anything about.

I have no idea. I've never looked at their remit in enough detail to see if that could be the case.0 -

The referendum resulted in a NO.
WE ACCEPT THAT.
Were now discussing what can be devolved as this is what currently is being discussed
Answer this, how is it possible to devolve the police but not the armed forces?
If I was caught speeding past Gretna Green, I couldn't keep the foot down until I got into Cumbria and then stop citing the Scottish police have no jurisdiction in Cumbria.
Same with Defence, I question why it couldn't be devolved with the Scottish Parliament looking after the Scottish Regiment, Leuchars and Lossiemouth etc?
Please do not do that. Because that speeding would be on record and you would NEVER be able to return to Scotland because by then everything would be devolved and they would be so desperate for money you would be fined several million pounds for said speeding offence.
Sturgeon is still bleating, she wants more, she will always want more, even if we allowed full devolution she would want more, she would even want more if we also gave them every penny this country made. The only mantra she knows is "I want more". I personally think that once everyone realises she will not get everything she wants by acting like a toddler having a tantrum then people will actually go back to their roots to a party that might actually know what it is doing by then. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

The record has become stuck. As there's nothing else to say at the moment. In due course the news will move on.0
