This is beyond parody. You must be taking the mick.
Scotland had the opportunity to have her own army and voted against it. Separatists can't just separate everything anyway and just say they're still in the UK. Some things (military, foreign policy) can only be done centrally. It's ludicrous to suggest otherwise.
Generali, we've moved on, your stuck in the past.
The referendum resulted in a NO.
WE ACCEPT THAT.
Were now discussing what can be devolved as this is what currently is being discussed
Answer this, how is it possible to devolve the police but not the armed forces?
If I was caught speeding past Gretna Green, I couldn't keep the foot down until I got into Cumbria and then stop citing the Scottish police have no jurisdiction in Cumbria.
Same with Defence, I question why it couldn't be devolved with the Scottish Parliament looking after the Scottish Regiment, Leuchars and Lossiemouth etc?:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

what benefit to you see in devolving control over the armed forces?
how would the defences of UK benefit ?
how would defences of Scotland benefit
do you envisage Holyrood voting for more army spending than that allocated by Westminster or less or the same?0 -

For the same reason that foreign policy can't be devolved.
The UK needs one army and one foreign policy if they are to be one country.
We get that you hate 55% of Scots for their betrayal of you but you must deal with the fact that Scotland remains in the UK.
Get over it please. Your posts are becoming increasingly desperate.0 -

Let's put this to bed, I don't hate fellow Scots, English, Welsh or Northern Irish.
I have no ounce of hatred in me at all.
Please stop lowering the attempts at reasoned debate by lowering yourself to such levelsFor the same reason that foreign policy can't be devolved.
The UK needs one army and one foreign policy if they are to be one country.
Yet why can the police be devolved?
My premise is that if the police can be devolved, why can't the defence regiments in Scotland.
When the UK was at war in Afghanistan, it was not just UK forces at work their and there was a united effort by many nations to succeed.
I'm looking for a solid argument to back up your claim, but it comes across as it's always been done a certain way and that's the only option going forward.:wall:

Police isn't a national service anyway. Its 49 (???) separate constabularies. Having a 50th one north of the border isn't much of an issue.illegitimi non carborundum0

Exactly and there's nothing stopping the Police Service in Scotland arresting someone in Cumbria for example.
I used the police as an example of something that is devolved, has different "regiments" yet can act across the nation.
You'll see the same in Manchester / Liverpool games where the Machester and Merseyside police unite to join up when the need prevails.
I'm just asking why the Scottish Regiment could not join up with the English forces should the need prevail but still be a devolved responsibility.
I know it's not how it is done at present, but I'm opening up the debate as to why exactly it couldn't become devolved:wall:

As an alternative thought, could the Coast Guard be a devolved responsibility?:wall:

With devotion comes responsibility so the concept would be that Scotland was responsible for the defense of Scotland? or Glasgow or what?
How many destroyers would Scotland provide (pay for) to defend the whole of Scotland? How many aircraft, how many soldiers and tanks.
Hint: 1 destroyer costs over £1billion, 1 Typhoon casts $125million
Or would the (reduced) budget you assume pay for nothing but armoured sofas to hide behind? Plus flags of course.

Any devolved Scots Regiment would join up with the rUK forces surely?...freudian slip perhaps?
The idea of devolved armed forces is laughable.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
@ISTL What if Scotland decided they didn't want to fund any devolved defence regiments, and spend the money on the NHS instead?illegitimi non carborundum0
