all in all a really fantastic night in Scotland for people like me. .

And an even better one for people like me. :)

A Conservative majority in the HoC, largely thanks to the SNP/Labour threat playing out in England, and Nanny Sturgeon hoisted by her own petard having promised the Scottish electorate a deciding vote in Parliament.

    Outstanding result*......

*Yes, yes, yes, I know in Shakey's head there is no bad result for the SNP and this is all some tactical masterstroke, but really, it isn't.... :rotfl:

What is a realistic plan for covering this amount? It's a lot for a small nation to bear.

    Any ideas?

It's impossible for a small nation to bear, as evidenced by Greece, etc, who have Deficit to GDP ratio's an order of magnitude smaller yet pay double digit funding costs on their debt.

According to the Cult Of Nationalism either indy or FFA would give us magical powers to grow our economy at such a rate we could grow out of it before the markets lost patience.

What they never manage to explain is why all the other countries in the World with such powers cannot achieve anything like the growth rate they predict we would.

But all in all a really fantastic night in Scotland for people like me. I'm going to enjoy it for a bit, before the inevitable carp starts at Westminster. What irony only the Scottish polls where the one's near the mark, and the polls no-one could quite believe. Not even the SNP.

I choked on my drink seeing that exit poll last night... :) Then had to pour another when I took in the Tory numbers..

It wasn't just a good night for the SNP. (Obviously you must be pleased with how well they did).

The Tories couldn't really expect to do any better. A lot of the coallition blame seemed to be dumped on the LibDems. Tory supporters must be buzzing too. The Tories were never going to do well north of the border.

All in all, the UKIP fans must be pleased too. They got a significant percentage of the UK wide vote.

There is certainly an expectation which has been set now; which has to be managed.

I'm guessing they will quietly drop full independence, and argue that a reconstructed FFR is what was desired all along?

Yes the Tories did well. I couldn't believe how 'out' the polls seem to have been over the last few months and how they all shaped the run up to yesterday quite wrongly.
And I don't think anyone was expecting the sheer scale of the Lib Dem collapse. I was reading an article on Libdem voice last week re coalitions. They were all thinking 25-30 MP's left, and bickering in the comments over whether they should go back in with the Tories, or Labour. I felt sorry for a lot of the MP's.. especially Vince Cable and Charles Kennedy who looked totally shellshocked and unprepared.

And I agree, the Tories were probably never going to do well in Scotland. In fact only another 4425 votes between the 3 seats that they didn't win, would've seen all 59 seats won by the SNP.

    Strange times ahead.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

No, they won't drop independence. But they won't go for it unless they can be sure of winning it.

Why don't I do an Adam Boulton for you and say 'Don't tell me what I think' ? ;)

It was an outstanding result for the SNP. I'm delighted... and it was an outstanding result for the Tories... I'm not quite so delighted by that. But am really very glad that all that tactical voting malarkey hardly made a dent. Because I feel far better about the thought of 56 SNP MP's in Westminster.. that I do about 40 odd Scottish Labour ones there. Alex Salmond's Lib Dem opponent looked like she was about to spontaneously combust having to stand next to him on the podium.

The fact that it WAS an SNP/Labour threat 'playing out in England' that may have swung it...says just about all we need to know about how strong the UK is together politically. And how far and fast things are diverging.

How it plays out from now no-one knows. So let's both just agree to 'enjoy the moment'.

Well if it makes you feel better then good for you.

As they'll both be spending the next 5 years in equal amounts of impotent rage. ;)

    it'll be great.

I'm enjoying a very nice Cohiba cigar tonight...

And yes, I know, some people will suggest I'm quite literally burning money.

But I reckon that's a better investment than their SNP membership subs at the moment.

    :D
