I watched the leaders thingy last night in horror, never was I so cognisant of the differences between our two nations. From the "I employ 57 workers and demand Ed Balls be sacked for daring to call a joke a joke" woman ( I'll send you my CV dolly, we will get on like a house on fire) to the Bloke who was building a business on seasonal" workers. Zero hour contracts and nary a blush on his cheeks. My very very favourite though was the gentleman who can afford a beer at the end of the week and who pointed out the Global Financial Crisis was all down to Gordon Brown selling gold. In my entire life, I have never come across a bunch of people so totally obsessed with self interest. These fine citizens of our fair land seem to think social conscience is a runner in the 3.15 at Haydock. Honestly, truthfully, I was bliddy disgusted

    what two nations are they?

You honestly believe that Scotland and the Scottish are somehow organically disposed to having a social conscience and the English aren't?
I`m guessing the two nations concerned are England and Scotland BTW.:)

I can only speak as I find. How else can I possibly judge? If the audience last night is typical of England then I suspect the union is truly dead. Just no one has gotten around to taking a shovel to it yet.

Yes, I am Scots and I voted to stay in the union and truly believed that's how I would vote if called to again.

Right up until the leaders debate last night when I took a good long look at middle England. It was like viewing Martians through a prism. I honestly believed there was hope for a United Kingdom. I believed there was more than joined us than divided us.

Only an idiot or some-one of deliberate ill will, would possibly form a serious view of the people of the UK, based on a TV show.

You do know that there`s a school of thought that says the more progressive social conscience abroad in Scotland is primarily down to you being able to afford the nice fluffy stuff courtesy of the over generous block grant you receive from the UK treasury?
I have a feeling that in the event of FFA or independence, a reactionary 'middle Scotland' would soon appear.

How else am I judge? Seriously? By the media which increasing portrays my country as some sort of racist enclave? By politicians who extolled the union and the freedoms it had won all of us. Right up until the minute they realised we were no longer going to vote, en masse, for the status quo. Or for the people we see on our screens.

@whatsoever - if the normal process was followed by the BBC they will have chosen the audience from a cross section of the political views in that area, and probably also the demographics. Quite possibly there could have been a Scot in the audience. They view the questions according to topical interest and from different viewpoints.

I would have found it astonishing if a person watching that programme had not found someone they did not like.

Personally, I was much more interested in the replies to the questions, rather than jumping to conclusions as to the moral standing of Leeds, or England, or the UK or Europe, based on what I though of 1 or 2 people in the audience.

It would have made for a useless programme if everything coincided with my own opinion, or yours, or any other single person.

My political convictions are based on sterner stuff then that.

I absolutely agree, I did not for one minute expect everyone to hold similar views to the Scots. It was the naked, ugly self interest. I've never seen anything like it.

For the first time I despaired for the union and I fought tooth and nail through the referendum to preserve it.

I think you would be happier without us.

I look at the economics of an independent or fiscally autonomous Scotland and recoil in horror from any party irresponsible enough to even consider it.

I look at the extraordinary progress Scotland has made, and the benefits we have from being in the fastest growing economy in the Western World with some of the lowest unemployment in Europe, and thank my lucky stars we voted No.

In other words, I look at the facts, and make judgements based on them.

I would no more base that judgement on the opinions of ignorant middle englanders on telly than I would on the opinion of delusional central belt Scots who believe we could live in a fantasy socialist state.
