So Barnett disappears? Will that be enough to pay for bailing out the Scottish banks next time they go t1ts up? What about all the other things that taxes pay for like the Armed Forces? Or should "someone else" be paying for things like that?

Well then I guess you'll have to make up your mind whether you want Barnett gone. Or whether you don't. Because from your post above neither pleases you very much.

For them as may be interested, I recommend a glance through these documents which give the draft legislation which was conceived to be the enactment of the Smith Report to which all Scottish Parties signed up.

Of particular interest to our recent discussion are the Fiscal arrangements in the document "An Enduring Settlement" which gives some information on the Fiscal Restraints with which the Scottish Government would need to comply in the new Devolution Settlement. As I understand it, the result will not be a free-for-all spending spree by the SNP although no doubt its barrack-room lawyers will do their best.

I presume the document reflects the Coalition View but would form a starting point for a Labour Government should that be the party in Power.

...relying on SNP votes for other legislation. If the polls play out. It's now almost impossible to bring down a government ( Labour haven't fully woken up to this yet, nor the press ). There will have to be compromises 'here and there'. Refusing absolutely everything the SNP suggests.. if half the Scottish electorate voted them in on the basis of their manifesto... Is a dangerous game if nearly everything turns yellow north of Berwick. Minority governments get by through compromise, it's the only way they can function at all.

HS2 has had a lot of money spent already in the planning phase. There is no way the numbers will work serving a relatively sparse region like Scotland.

They should leave rail planning to the experts.

Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. One thing's for sure though, there will also be a lot of northern based Labour MP's that would be more than happy to see something like HS2 located elsewhere in terms of jobs etc. Who knows.

    This is an interesting graphic.

SNP / Sturgeon only marginally less popular than any other option.

I called it a few posts back - the English are actually quite open to the idea of the SNP / Scotland having more say in UK politics.

there is no requirement for a fast high capacity train link between scotland and england

once scotland becomes independent and most of the young talented scots have moved south and scotland become a greece, then there will be insufficient economic activity to justify the link except at xmas and thereabouts when the economic migrants return home to see their aged parents bearing food parcels.

46% wouldn't mind SNP involvement. Higher than what Labour and the Tories are currently polling; approximately 50% higher

comparing a "how will you vote" opinion poll with a "do you mind if x plays some part [in a coalition government]" poll is just silly.
