I reckon through time the brain drain will stop for us and maybe start south of the border, maybe best to get free tuition fee's sorted for your youth fast

well let's examine how it works

let's take a couple of rich people both earning say over £200k per annum with 3 kids who will go to Uni

in Thatcherite England the rich chap will probably pay directly for his kids to go to UNi

In a 'fairer ' and 'more equal Scotland' the rich guy earning over £200,000 gets a massive state subsidy of around £190,000 compared to his English counterpart

and who pays the bill in Scotland for this massive handout to the rich?
well as it comes from taxation then it will be
-people who don't go to Uni both the rich and poor
-anyone that does go to uni but doesn't earn more than around 21,000

again one can compare two young people without rich parents who go to uni and then graduate
-one is a high flyer and quickly earns a large salary as a banker
    - the other does socially useful work but on low earning

In England, the rich banker pays back his loans quite quickly but is fairer and more equal' Scotland the rich person is fully subsidised which is paid for by higher taxation on the people who don't go to uni and the graduates who don't earn over 21k

You could of course, do some research and see what percentage of under privileged young people in England apply for Uni and compare that with Scotland.

England will continue to welcome the best of young Scots and we will support their sports teams and we won't sing songs about killing them either.

Win win for England and the young progressive Scots who move south.

Thanks for the explanation, elantan. Do you think it's OK for gagging rules such as this to exist for the protection of the SNP whilst new members get used to the totalitarian regime they've signed up to even though this particular rule has only just been introduced and ratified? So many would have signed up pre-gagging order but are now bound by it?

This is like something out of a dystopic (horror?) novel.

As i say I am not a member so cant really say but from the ones that I know that have been members for a long time ( 30 plus years) they seem to feel that it is an acceptable price to pay in the interim, a few I have spoken to are a bit concerned as the newer members are more left then they are, I am sure like many other groups that suddenly receive a huge influx of members there will be issues that will need worked out, and not all the new members will be happy if they find out the party is not what they thought it would be.

It is an interesting and exciting game and time right now with a lot of people learning and debating with each other.

Are you sure? - I recall that previously you said you did not agree with the gagging.

They already have - the SNP have changed their standing orders so that "no member shall within or outwith the parliament publicly criticise a group decision, policy or another member of the group".

    No freedom at all.

Welcome to our brave new world.

Do you understand the term 'collective responsibility'?

Do you know what a 'party whip' is?

They're saying: 1) don't criticise your party or its policies in public and 2) Don't insult another MP in your party.

To simplify that for you, it's very similar to the 'don't insult your employer on Facebook because they'll find out and fire you' rule.

Fairly standard protocol. You can stop copy/pasting it now.

It seems that you don't know what collective responsibility is. Collective responsibility applies to the Cabinet not to political parties.

It is nothing like insulting your employer on Facebook: an MP's employer is the electorate not the party they stand for!

I realise that you are an ideologue subscribed to an extremist group but at least have a stab at getting the basics right please.

Are you confusing collective responsibility with cabinet collective responsibility? Collective responsibility isn't a concept that applies solely to Westminster. Bizarre.

In what way is removal of a party whip, and thus becoming an independent MP, not unlike being disciplined at work? Anyway, It was clearly a facetious remark, you chose to take it serious.

    Lighten up, old chap

It wasn't clearly a facetious remark, you're just embarrassed for being picked up on an obvious mistake.

I was about as wrong as you were saying MPs are employed by the electorate.
