Bank is Lying, the direct debt guarantee states any alteration to amounts that has not be authorised directly by the customer must be refunded if queried.

Wrong 100%, so you are Lying with this statement. Take a mobile phone contract of say £10 a month and you go over your contracted allowance, they will amend the DD for the next bill to cover this, you are sent your bill along with date of approx. withdrawal before hand, so you are being informed of any changes.
  • As the OP I was not notified about the new amount at all.

Grumbler - You mention that the amount of a DD can vary with no direct authorisation being needed. Do you know roughly by what sort of amount at all please? For example can they double the amount without telling you. Thanks.

AFAIK there are no any restrictions.

See the DD guarantee quoted in some post above.

The DD can vary by any amount, but whether it varies by 1p or £1000 you should always get the advance notification 10 working days prior to them taking the funds.

    Hardly a surprise....
Wait one day, then send them a Letter Before Action.
  • Thanks grumbler, to be honest it really wasn't a surprise to me that it hadn't gone in. I will do as you suggest, thanks for the help.

I have some contact details for the Directors office, if you'd like them let me know (I won't add them here as it seems the Voda reps go crying to MSE if any contact details for Voda are added to a post which then causes the whole post to be deleted).
