    Hi all,

I am still on the MK path - I am looking forward to getting the house back to 'normal' after Christmas, I know it's grumpy, but the tree and cards (why do people send them, I never send cards, rather give a charity donation) are just clutter to me - but I do love the feeling when they have gone and it's all tidy.

I am going to re-Kondo my wardrobe, as some stuff I have,t worn, can be sent onto charity - I,ll re-do hubbies drawers too - nothing to get rid of, apart from some holy socks, but needs refolding.

I will clear all the kitchen cupboards and drawers and clean and list everything we have and start to run down the chest freezer, as I want to do without that in the new year - I will have to be more organised with shopping.

I,ve just realised this makes me sound very OCD, but I,m far from it, just like the fact that MK means you can find what you want when you need it :)

Hope you all had a peaceful Christmas and have a great 2016

    Happy Boxing Day everybody.

A very happy Christmas was had here, lovely family time with just the four of us. My favourite kind of day. The children actually talked to each other and even came for a walk by the sea! :faints:

No pressies that require refitting - except potentially a box of choccies or two. And lots that can be experienced or used up. Posh shower gel (I have enough for the year now ;)), restaurant vouchers, said choccies, gift voucher for my favourite clothes shop ( to be used sometime in the year),

Best of all was a ring that I had made out of my aunties bracelet. This is a direct Kondo result. You may recall that the bracelet had a half sovereign in it so I didn't ever wear it. Kondo told me to remove sovereign (which was sold and I bought a picture with the proceeds), bracelet then adapted. Regrettably I broke it and lost enough links to make it unwearable. I made the decision to have it remade into the thumb ring I have wanted for some time - so OH paid £60 for that to happen (they had to add some gold) and I absolutely adore it :T

I have come so far this year. There is stil a way to go - for a start the kids had far too many Christmas pressies and the garage still needs a skip in order to clear it - but I think most categories now are in maintenance. And, more importantly, my entire mindset has changed.

And only one more month in the job before a new life begins. I wouldn't have even cared to dream about that this time last year.

    Happy New Year everyone
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Have a good weekend all - how many of us going to the sales I wonder ;)[/QUOTE]
Just what i was wondering! I had a quick look online but decided i didn't need anything :D

Dh and i kept pressies to minimum as we are lucky enough to be going on hol in january, so he bought me a lovely bouquet of freesia and i bought him a handpainted silk case for his 'tv-watching' glasses!

We had a lovely day with his half of the family, everyone played games, had a great laugh and was very relaxed, apart from mil who is always obsessed about feeding us as much food as she can, and gets very put out if we decline anything (me and my siblings-in- law laugh to ourselves and there is much re-distribution of food towards those who can manage it :rotfl:). The wierdest thing is that despite the youngest person there being 24 y.o. we still got told off for .......... talking at the table :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: For anyone that knows me and my sil, that is even funnier!!

DH and I are just chllling out today, not visiting anyone, just tidying up, making a light lunch and prob watching a dvd later ( then it can to CS on Tues :)

We are also wondering whether it will ever stop raining - i seriously cannot remember it ever
raining so much for so long. Our thoughts are with those folk that have been flooded out recently.

I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Well - leftover veg made into Bubble & Squeak patties - extra boiled potatoes mashed with butter, both lots ready to go in the freezer. Italian trifle decorated to take over to DS1 - just going to primp what I can to look presentable & then someone else can do the catering today!!
Think most of the gang are up for going to see Star Wars so will canvas everyone to see what day/time is best.
    Happy Boxing Day all xx

  • I just had to reply to this threads to say I read this book recently and loved it too.

I read it one day and by the end of the next day I had made 3 trips to the local charity shop (don't have a car and there are only so many bags you can carry at once lol).

I think the idea of only keeping things that spark joy is such a good one. As I went through things it was so easy to let go of things that didn't. I got rid of so many books that I didn't actually want to read, DVD's that I don't watch and CD's that I won't ever listen to.

I now have so many less "things", clearer surfaces, more drawer/cupboard space and everything I have left has a home so that it will be so much easier to keep my space tidy. :T

There are some things that I found a bit odd, like emptying your handbag each night and putting your keys, purse etc away in their "homes". Just seems like a waste of time to me when I'd just get up the next day and have to put them all back in my bag :(

I'd recommend anyone read this book, you might not agree with everything but I think a lot of people would get at least a few ideas from it.

No plans whatsoever here to visit the sales or any other kind of shops for a while as there is plenty in the house and nothing we need or want.

I re KM-ed my make up today. That - and my underwear - I did this time last year - before I'd heard of MK, but I did it in an instinctive way, which fitted KM style :) It stayed tidy all year, except for the last week, when I had a couple of hurried getting-ready-for -dos - but was soon sorted today. 1 nail polish earmarked to try out next week, as I suspect it's not joyful, 1 mascara binned as dried up. The rest all stayed :)

I plan to re-do my clothes in a couple of days time - off to panto tomorrow and I'm also fighting a cold, so am not expecting the energy for a couple of days - whilst I don't have many clothes and they have all been gone through a couple of times before, the sheer effort involved in getting it all out (even in subcategories) and then putting away again in one day (the max time I'm giving myself) will tire me out, as the cold is moving onto my chest. However, I'm looking forward to it, in a weird way. A sort of fresh start to KM-ing, to go with the upcoming fresh new year :)

The only things we intend buying (non food wise) in the next month are: slippers for DS3, trainers for DS3 (both outgrown, so a necessity), slipper socks for DS2 (he has discovered these through an outgrown pair of DS1's and has declared them 'the most awesome socks EVER' so will get him a couple more pairs and he can have them as part of his bday stuff in 10 days, socks for me (have about 5 pairs and I could really do with a few more) and that is it. Ooh - no doubt DS1 will buy himself a PS4 game with some of his money too.

I could do with some new saucepans - 1 went in the bin on Xmas Eve (handle came off a second time and I didn't fancy anyone having an accident with it with hot stuff in if OH repaired it again) and the frying pan is decidedly non stick now. I shall hang on for a couple of months (hopefully kitchen re-fit will have happened then) unless I see an amazing deal somewhere - but that's unlikely, as I'm not planning on looking for one! :D

I've fallen a bit behind; inner me still wants to achieve declutter heaven, but with a few days off work now, can any of you kind KM-ers tell me what tidying had the most impact, and therefore the most incentive to carry on.

    Thanks.
