Blue_Doggy wrote: »Pennystretcher, I like your direct view. Personally, I'm for a woodland burial in a cheap coffin, becoming plant food for some lovely trees. I don't want anyone to feel they need to visit my grave as I will be as happy with the wild flowers that grow naturally as with the most expensive florist's selection.
I hate the idea of beautiful hardwoods going underground to rot and my lovely Mum, a keen woodworker, feels the same way. We've had the convo and she's agreed to a cardboard coffin.
I once shocked the hell out of someone by saying I want to be cut up for spares and the rest composted - it would be entirely in keeping with the way I've lived my life and the values I've always held. I'm a registered organ doner, already.
:j pukkamum - respect! Awesome achievements.
Fingers crossed it all comes together soon, VJsMum, rooting for you.Well, came in from work, made my usual cuppa and had a snack to tide me over til supper and settled down with the tray of stuff which was formerly the table-top of stuff.
Have filed, discarded, shredded where appropriate. Have also opened and dealt with three items of post. Most so-called post doesn't even get indoors these days. I open my external mailbox and anything not wanted like pizza leaflets etc goes straight back into the recycling bins.
Going to make real efforts to keep that tabletop free, as it's supposed to be a usable space, not just a junk-platform. Still haven't done the 'coffee-table' which is a smallish trunk, but one thing at at time and steady as she goes.
greenbee (I think?) can't have filing trays, tried them and it didn't work, pooter desk is only a wee bit wider than the keyboard and nowhere for them to go.Have been reviewing my clothes and have decided I definately need no more of them in any category for at least a year, so will not buy any.
Am getting a ridiculous amount of satisfaction in using up products and getting rid of the containers every day on my way out to work. It's beyond delightful to see the spaces opening up where Stuff used to be.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sadly, cardboard coffins aren't necessarily the cheap £ option - having been involved with 3 funerals recently with cardboard coffins, the plainest, most basic wooden coffin was cheaper - mass produced, possibly? - I didn't ask! I'd better start saving cardboard boxes then...0 -

I've seen some very fetching willow coffins. As I've loved baskets in life, perhaps being planted in some English willow would be just the ticket?
greenbee, wall-mounted stuff wouldn't work here, largest room is 12 ft by 9ft and cramped enough as it. I have suitable filing for what has to be kept, just need to use it in a timely manner. It's a case of forming good habits.
Have been watching Hugh's War on Waste on i-player and being alternately uplifted and infuriated. Am busily untangling a yarn snarl which was part of the yarn which came out of the loft the other week. There's reusable yarn in there which doesn't need to be chucked in the bin and I will do my level best to stop any waste happening. My to-recycle-on-way-out tomorrow pile is growing nicely by the door. I just love-love-love feeding the recycling bins.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Greyqueen, what about a magazine holder for vertical storage? I have one in my hall, intended for 'outgoing post' it more usually holds library books waiting to be returned.
Re the funerals, funnily enough yesterday as I was sat at the computer I wrote up a few details of what I'd like and added them to the list of what I've got (pensions, life policies etc) and where the papers are located. I have no children and live alone, so some day, one of my lovely nieces or nephews will probably have to sort things out. This document used to say 'in the filing cabinet' but thanks to MK I don't have one any more!
I know a few people, like me, have been spurred on to begin this process for that reason - you don't want to leave your children or more distant relatives with a huge task. Please, please make a will if you haven't already done so. It will save your nearest and dearest untold trouble, and ensure that your assets go where you want them to.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I'm considering donating my body to medical science. I've often thought it is a way to give back something to medicine as without medical expertise I would not be here. Having physical disabilities might mean I'm a bit different but I'm sure different is good when training doctors.A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Successful evening of clothes kondo. All clothes currently in the bedroom have been looked and and kept or culled. Started folding some t-shirts but it got late so will finish folding everything tomorrow. Need to do coats and accessories (belts shoes etc) also but pleased with what I managed! Some tough decisions but I am a hoarder so it's hard to let go of clothes I loved even if I don't think I'll really wear them again. I know the rule is spark joy but in fairness these clothes spark both joy and sadness that realistically I won't wear them... I'm going to really struggle on tougher bits aren't I?Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0

I googled the Black Friday origin and was shocked to read
That it was when slaves were sold at a discount the Friday after thanksgiving in America.
Well I wasn't intending to take part in anyway but never will now.
Sorry to start the day negative but had to post this.
Everyone stay safe in the high winds
And have a lovey day.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”
