GreyQueen is spot on with the value of things and the concept of cost of things. I think she was the one who gave me the well intentioned kick up the rear when I was hanging onto things that I had paid good money for. I think it is re homing the first few items that is the hardest. Sadly, I am one of the people who needs the money so can't just give it away. I still drift now and again with items, CDs are the pain at the moment. I would buy an album because I liked one song. What was that all about? I think if not been so frivolous of all that money how better off I would be but if I am honest with myself I would have only bought something equally as bad!
I do keep seasonal things but have been going through the Halloween box. A few things a will keep as we reuse them e.g. Pumpkin buckets that I put lights in. I will also keep my black homemade Cape. This brings back some memories as it is so versatile. In my late teens I originally made it for my darth vader fancy dress outfit included voice changing head gear. I remember as we walked into town to the pubs going past this family and the little boy ran up to me and started hugging me and asking me questions. He thought I was real. his parents had one of them 'how do we deal with this' look whilst mouthing to me sorry. Luckily my friends knew me well and just did the ssh sign to them as they knew I would not crush his dreams.Don’t put it down - put it away!

It's funny I was asked years ago what item I would grab In a house fire
After everyone was out safely.
I answered photograph album.
Now with the cloud that is no longer nessasary.
The fact that everyone including animals was out safe.
Nothing really after that would matter to me now.
This attitude is a direct result of reading the book.
Grey queen you are quite right
If the stuff was a person would you let them take up so much

:j The two items in the outside place for collection have now left. I've been out for about 3 hrs with a mate - the one who brought the car around for the knitting machine. She's made up, I'm made up, Mum's made up, it's a win-win-win situation.
Am about to slope down to my chazzer with a donation bag which includes one thing a pal was wanting to get rid of, I exp the donations are going, did she want to add it to my bag? She's happy.
See ya laters, it's all going well here.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Mrs MP you made my laugh with your list today, esp the ukulele :rotfl:
we have a caddlewick bedspread which we use as a cover when decorating but my mum has at least 3 she never uses. Mmmm, another project if GQ's 'get mum kondo-ing' trick works on mine...
i am visitng the parents in about 10 days' time. Having started evangelising about MK to mum, (to try and plant the seed) she must have been doing a little stock take in her head because she rang me to say, 'don't buy any new towels i've got loads'... WHY?? There are only 2 residents and it has been just the two of them for about 30 years.
Oooh, I so hope I can do a GQ, loft or no loft, there is so much that should go to free up the space and help them cope better every day. As we all know, being able to do the cleaning without mauling stuff out of the way, and simply finding things quickly makes such a big difference.

A lovely neighbour kondoed some yummy apples to us yesterday, I decided to kondo them into a batch of Apple cakes, 1 for OH for this week, 2 for the freezer and 2 smaller ones (one for the lovely neighbour and the other for my mum - both live on their own. 'tis flippin Murphy's law that the 2 to be given away have sunk a little:eek::eek:
Time to look at the second batch. - Seem to be doing OK, but won't know until they are out of the oven.
It is 4 years last week since we moved into this house and I still cannot get used to the electric double ovens, I obviously suit gas ovens more than electric iykwim.
New recipe from interweb, if anyone has a fail safe one could they point me in the right direction:o. The recipe includes a caramel and walnut topping made from cream and soft toffees with the chopped nuts pressed on top, I had intended to omit this, but I think a trip to the open all hours shop is needed (I have the cream, but not the toffee). The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Thanks for that, mrs-moneypenny, looks very interesting.
Amusingly, another of the 4 items offered on freegle (2 already gone) has found a match in the last few mins and will be leaving in a couple of days. Have reported the progress of the items to the parents, where they originate from, and they are chuffed. The joy of going out with a full car and coming back with almost nothing.
On a smaller scale, I went out and un-shopped a carrier bag of chazzer donations. Stuff is on da move around here.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Good afternoon Kondoers! It sounds like everyone is making a lot of progress. :j
Over here, bought a new pair of trainers today and didn't hesitate to ask the store to dispose of the old ones (as suggested on the zero waste site that someone here had recommended) and the (shudder!) box as I'm pretty well sorted on storage containers right now. Apparently it's not so odd a request these days, they write 'sold' on it so that later when they break down the extra boxes for recycling there's no confusion that shoes were swapped/stolen.
Had a bit of a KM moment, there's a chill in my corner of Essex and people are starting to turn on their heating. A knock at my door, the landlord from across the hall, and did I know how to get the water pressure back up on the boiler? I did actually, two minutes while I get out the printed instructions for when I needed to figure it out for mine.
To be fair, it's quite fussy, but I was amused that three men had messed around with it for 20+ minutes and couldn't figure it out and I had it sorted and the heat turned on in under two minutes. It was only possible as I had my house paperwork sorted neatly into a file.
The landlord later stopped by and gave me these flowers; I share them virtually with all of you fellow KM'ers; no one else would understand the satisfaction I felt in having my paperwork organised and being able to easily help them with no effort.
Side note. As I've been catching up on posts someone (GQ?) mentioned Don Aslett. His writings go back 20 years but the message aligns with Marie. I've had this book:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Don-Asletts-Clutter-free-Finally-Forever/dp/0937750123
for a while and am ready to release it to the charity shop, if anyone would like it for free, am happy to post for free to anyone on this lovely thread, just comment here if you would like it. It's a little US-centric but still an inspiring message.0 -
Well busy weekend as DGD3 invited herself for a sleepover. She is cute though and we had a happy morning on pumpkin hunt and stopped over at Mr T Just for a few vegetables as little one helped me Kondo those we had into slow cooker for a casserole. We also did more gardening. This mins game has been so good for my garden which is being sorted (KMd) properly for this winter. Have completed today's list and started on day 26 already.
Mins Day 25
1-9 pots stripped of summer bedding
10- 23 Plastic pots and plant containers planted out and plastic for RC
24. DGD planted up pot and bulbs to take home for mummy
25. Last of RC bulbs planted out
Only a few pots left to strip out now but mins and KM has definitely got me really sorting the garden this year.
Visited CS with this weeks collected up stuff. Usually go to Sue Ryder one as they are so pleasant, there is parking and open on Sunday.2025 Decluttering Campaign 648/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟🌟
