Morning all... How come when the clocks go back I always wake up earlier than normal? Somehow the girls are still in the land of nod, was going to wake them for church but they never get lie ins!

Really enjoying reading the mins game progress, might jump on board in November. I seem to have reached a stand still. It doesn't help when you sell something 'collect only' on eBay, mess you around and then say that they'll send you a pre postage label and to just put it in the post as though you have nothing better to do. We are talking over 50 CDs. So these are hanging around.

  • Hah, that's the problem! Carry on clearing what you can, and hope the KM effect starts to filter through, it's worked for others here.

I've started photos. It's actually not as emotionally upsetting as I thought it would be, but boy is it time-consuming! I think I'll get two storage crates down to one half-full one, I have enough albums once I've thrown out the surplus. That doesn't include the thousands  stored on the computer. Note to self: no more scenery shots. Yeah, they look great but where the heck was I when I took this?

GQ - I often use freegle and get really cross when people don't turn up. If they don't arrive as arranged it goes to the next person who requested. I also give short shrift to people who can't be bothered to ask politely! Having said that I do think it's a great way to get rid of useful unwanted items.
I must share with all you wonderful people - I now have FIVE large empty storage boxes! I'm not going to Kondo them yet as the Christmas decs are in various tatty cardboard boxes and will be rehomed in a couple. I've also got plans for one for cards and presents collected during the year. SO much neater and more organised ;)
Have a lovely day all xxx

Just seen your post re photos Polly.I've realised I hardly ever look back at the photos I've taken and the ones that really interest anyone are those with friends and family in them. I've not got round to sorting mine yet but I think the majority of scenes will bite the dust!!

GQ I agree with your mum about the money being sunk. I've given some once expensive items to the CS because we aren't in need of the money (I mean I'd not turn down money but as I don't need it for debt or bills I figured I should save the time for clearing and living so just give away the stuff to improve the house and not feel stressed by selling).

I'm wishing I'd keep a record of how much has gone out as I know I've taken several boot loads to the charity shop and other charity drop offs.

:) Yeah, I think there is a point in life when you attach a higher value to your time and energy than you do to hustling around to make a bob or two. Not to imply critiscism of anyone who has no choice other than to try for that bob or two, of course.

I've had a letter from the chazzer where I gift-aid that they've made nearly £200 off the bits and bobs I've given them this year. Quite surprised as I doubt most items would have gone out other than £1-£3 each. But it's all stuff off the premises and I woudn't have been in the position to give them the same amount in cash.

I've been thinking about sunk costs etc when sorting stuff out, as I have been this morning, pal is running a bit late for the knitting machine. Such as how we hang onto stuff Because I Paid Good Money for That and I Might Need It One Day.

And on the rare occasions where we do need to re-purchase something which we gave away or sold, we sting and smart over the money we've wasted, don't we?

But how often do we add up the costs of owning more than we need? Such as the home which costs more to rent or buy, and more council tax and fuel to heat it, so's we have room for our Stuff? Or the things which we break or damage by knocking clutter over onto them? Or the injuries we sustain falling over Stuff? Or the emotional wear and tear of struggling with them, arguing about them etc etc? Or the additional removal costs of dragging it around from home to home?

Those costs are much harder to quantify than the £9.99 we had to spend to by another thingummy because we gave ours away late last millennium and then didn't need another for 20 years. Yet it's the £9.99 (or whatever) that we whinge and whine about, isn't it?:rotfl:

  • I really wish I'd kept a photo record of bags, boxes and donations .... but then what would I do with the photos! I probably could or should have sold more of my stuff, but I've mostly preferred to just get it out of the house.

Silvasava, doing photos has really made me think about why I take them. It's the ones with people in that I've saved, not the beautiful sunsets. And do I really need ten pictures of the camping trip I went on in 2004, when a couple would do to remind me? I've been wondering whether to get rid of my camera, as I always use my phone these days, and now I think I will. I'm going to blitz the ones on the laptop next. and I'm going to stop taking photos!

I'm in the same frame of mind as you Polly - 2 redundant cameras as I use my phone or tablet. I'm still going to take photos though but keep it to friends and family to mark happy times :)
