  • I'm hoping the glitches in the censoring stop soon - is making some things pretty difficult to read!

I'm feeling pretty underwhelmed about most of my bday pressies. For once family came up trumps and friends' gifts will be quietly sent on elsewhere. Is incredibly kind of them to get me anything, but nothing leaves me as hollow as a totally unsuitable present, when I've already said I don't want any. I've had far more joy painting little odds and ends I have a sentimental attachment to than new things that just aren't wanted or needed. And I feel terribly ungrateful but I'm being honest

We had our first set of friends over, and, as I mentioned earlier on, they brought some gifts. My dds got crafting supplies, most of which were used that same afternoon. The artwork is currently on display, but will be binned Thursday evening (Fridayvis bin collection day). My gift was a luxury shower set, with a shower gel, body lotion and shower puff in a nice box. I was already thinking of whom I could forward this gift to, when dd2 tore into the box to get at the puff.... Now I'm stuck with a body lotion I don't use, dds can have the shower puff to play with, and I'll use the shower gel.

Yes I have been disapointed with bday gifts as well in the past.
no thought or research gone into them at all.
For a significant bday when working, I received a beautiful biege cashmere polo neck sweater. This was after you were asked for a wish list!
Alas I hate wearing the colour biege it makes me look ill.
I dont suit polo necks they make my 'boobage' look bigger and I get too hot wearing them. My friend said she passed all this info on discreetly to the the gift buyer after the whipround. I got highly perfumed bath gift sets that I cant use as well. I had asked for vouchers but it was ignored as it was considered a cop out.
I now have stopped sending cards for anything even xmas and dont want any sent to me. This was met with horror at first but everyone knows its what I want.
I get out of it by saying I send money in leui of cards to a local charity, which I do every xmas.
You can produce a receipt for the donation if anyone is suspicious.

GQ, I have visions of your relative thinking "manure? she surely means manicure... cosmetic set it is!" :rotfl:

And add me to the list of people who have relatives that ask for specifically what you want (which was a cookbook at the time) then ignore it and buy whatever they want, or on offer. I have a lot of cosmetic allergies, the last thing I want is a cheap perfumed lotion that you got on 3 for 2!

Finally had enough of that and now say no gifts. I think a few have snuck through since, usually in the form of chocolates. At least the MIL buys a decent brand name, FIL (they're divorced) gives supermarket brand. And sorry all those blind tests that say otherwise, supermarket brand choc (that's not Aldi/Lidl) is VILE.

    Back to Kondo...

Although not much Kondoing going on around here. We had some furniture delivered that was wrapped in a ton of packaging, so both bins are pretty full up this week. Was doing an autumn "spring" clean this week, which is joyful to look at the results. Tipping down here today though, so not even that as I need to air the rooms afterwards.

My Knodoing is very slow at the moment due to RL. Back bedroom has the bed stacked with the boat cushions and covered over with the throw. Its looks tidy but a bit 'Princess & the Pea' ;) At least the front bedroom is still immaculate in case we have guests.
I've just got a decorative Samurai sword down from the loft (dont ask!) for DH to use for his Halloween Jack Sparrow outfit. I'd like the other two to go out the door after but I can't see that happening. I have pulled another trug down while I was there. Can't believe the bits that were shoved in it out of the way. A shower scrub (never use them) two victorian vases, an oil & vinegar set with a small teapot (????) all in the same blue & white porcelain. a beautiful piece of arab tapestry fabric (will find a use for that!) and four pairs of M&S white lacy knickers  WHY??????
I have managed to kondo two gooseberry plants on freecycle though, does that count?
Have a good day all x

Well, after my rant at MSE, I'm glad it's not just me that's noticing this censorship problem!

Since the weather got cooler a few weeks ago, I've been struggling with sciatica (escaped it last winter!). Have just taken a painkiller, so I can do more kondoing this afternoon. It really is a damned (watch MSE, or their US software, censor that word! :rotfl:) nuisance, both night and day.

Still, well done all the other Konverts who are struggling to kondo, with ailments. It's not easy when people are fit, but it is a wake up call, as we get older, to all the carp that someone will have to clear, eventually. Much better to clear the decks now. :D

I'm glad your birthday, was relatively joyful, dragonette. Have a joyful year ahead! :)

It's my 70th a week on Tuesday, but I kondoed it some weeks back. :D The hypocrisy of receiving expensive gifts, rather than the Time for nice long phone chat, just makes me sad. Unfortunately, on a whim, I kondoed my public Wish List of needed things, so I'm afraid that more ricey, unwanted carp will probably arrive! Silly me! :rotfl:

lollyfin: I've cut shopping down to a minimum for several years now - nothing unnecessary comes in. Surprisingly, when I went into town to drop off carp the other week, I visited Mr M's for a fish and chips treat and only spent £8 on groceries, most of which was a jar of coffee, on offer! Quite shocked myself. :D

PollyWollyDoodle: I'm corralling items in separate boxes of categories-to-come. It will be so much easier to deal with later on, in a house, which is a jumble of miscellaneous Stuff. My house looks like a 'Hoarders Paradise', which would be overwhelming, without combining a smidgeon of organisation with kondoing. :o Corralling does give me a greater sense of control and quickerer kondoing in the future. :D

GQ: Kongratulations, in easing the parents into kondoing! That must be bringing you real joy - even if it does mean extra discarding for you. A 'fun' project can also be quite exciting for older people, where days can drift into each other unnoticed. :D

I have to agree with you about the amount of waste that neighbours put out for collection! It's horrific here - food waste bins and 2-3+ huge recycling bags every week, and full bins of unrecyclable household waste each fornight - middle-aged couple, no children! Depending on kondo action, I put out 1 half-to a full bag of recycling every fortnight and half a bag of unrecyclable stuff, every 4-6 weeks. (My smugness may wane as kondoing continues!)

jinny: I like your idea of a 3 task to-do list - so much more manageable, with the accompanying satisfaction and success! ;) My to-do lists are always over-ambitious, which leads to regular disappointment. :o I shall keep a less urgent list, too, so that on 'good' days, I can cut a wider swathe through the carp! :D

iTwin: Brilliant news about you and your Bro's land decision. I have been waiting for a High Court decision on a similar family headache, but the HC have put a spoke in my cousin's ambitions, so need to confer with my solicitor once more!

Right, I'm off to pack up some more crud for leaving - the rain's stopped and that, or the Ibuprofen, has worked!

Oh, forgot to mention: I sorted out some of my yarn stash, while searching for some, for a baby garment. So, part of stash is corralled!

Also, my punnets have become a 'collection'! I don't do collections, so half are being weeded to RC! ;)

Keep it up, Konverts - we will get there! :D

I take it it's not a real samurai sword!
The pubs around here can get a bit 'lively'
So that wouldn't do at all:eek:
