No Jinny - its part of a decorative set (that Ive always hated) If it was a real one it would have been auctioned years ago! But I know DH will want to keep them - at least in the loft they are out of sight. I know they are blunt but they still give me the willies (will that be censored??)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

iTwin If only the land problems here were so simple life would be a dream but if it doesnt break you it can only make you stronger
I do hope your issues are sorted out soon.To me all this nonsense comes down to one thing 'greed'

You are SO right!
Personally, money doesn't interest me. As long as I can get by, I'm OK. Having a tiny income forces me to focus on essentials only, and I get joy from the small things in life, like occasional Mr M's fish and chips, your baby bunnies, birds in the garden, soft fruits in season, friends, the kind people on here, and anything that makes me smile!
Unfortunately, some people are are simply avaricious. How sad. From what I observe, they are not particulary happy.
Again, you're right, about 'things that don't break you...' This legal carp has definitely (with MK) helped me to get life and happiness in perspective! It has certainly made me consider the sort of people that I want in my life, and those that have no place! :rotfl:
I'm sorry the White Box hasn't turned out to be the gem you dream of, but, hey, something perfect will eventually show up.
Good luck with the ironing! I'm glad that's something I kondoed, years ago, however, I remember that it could be quite soothing to press a few clothes! Well, I can look forward to pressing seams, when I get round to sewing again! :rotfl:
Keep us posted on you foray into the property market, and finding your dream sanctuary!

Thanks for the post about miss minimalism ,have kondoed a few hours reading it! Don't think I would ever be like that, and no real wish to,but very interesting perspective and inspiration to kondo more carp!
Went to make a cuppa and put the grapes in the fruit basket, so put the empty punnet in top cupboard to hold salt ,pepper etc. When I got the urge to check the bottom 2 corner cupboards (these were kondo earlier this year). Cut a long story short got rid of at least 50 items Pyrex dishes, jelly bowls, metal Indian dishes, pasta bowls.why they didn't make the original cull I don't know!:
Now the cupboards are half empty, it's fab:T
Sorry to all the recyclers out there but don't have a car and needed them out of the house so they've been binned, which is naughty of me. I can feel the disapproval from here!
I am sure reading the minimal blogs is helping see things through new eyes.
I am going to look for a case to put dgs dvd s in,and throw the boxes, then another drawer will be half empty :TFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Re the swords
I really knew they would be fake but still give you the creeps eh?
There was a regimental sword in our family. When my uncle died it was offered to my brother being ex military. His wife refused it coming into the house... point blank. I dont blame her, even with the promise of it being locked away safely no way.
My exes family were into gun clubs hunting shooting and fishing fans. The guns were secured and monitored at the club but I didnt like it. They said I was a toonie and didnt understand country ways.
Sorry sliding off topic and off on a tangent.
Wort ....I am having trouble letting go of fruit containers now. Im thinking this would be a great drawer liner...no i have enough liners now ....into the recyling with you!
Hope everone is ok and making progress with KM”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Afternoon all.
Seem to have missed all the brouhaha but two of my posts upthread are sporting !!!!!! and I have no idea what those words were before they were filtered out. They were perfectly acceptable when I posted them, lol.
Have had the daily update from The Loft. The knitting machine's table has been found, where I initially thought it was, up the far end by the gable. It was, Dad reported to Mum, 'under the blue thing'. The blue thing is an adjustable dressmaking form, and it can go, as soon as I have located its detachable stand, which is somewhere up there. Lightweight item, but displacing quite an area. Also, she voluntarily discussed the late 1970s part of the Luggage Archive, two heavy vinyl suitcases, with a view to getting rid of them.
Mum and I had a pretty profound chat about Stuff, and feelings about it, the hardness of letting it go, and I really feel a corner has been turned. That thingspreviously met with a blanket and hostile refusal to even consider it, are now slated for removal or even up for discussion. Pretty darned amazing.
I am opening my home to a tsunami of Stuff this Friday, but in the greater cause of getting rid of it for them, so feel that the temporary upheaval will be worth it.
On my own account, I am parting from a pretty nice jamjar, a jar of many sides with a fruit-printed lid. It is pretty but it displaces a lot of space in return for what it holds, so I will sling it into the recycling right now, before I chicken out.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

silvasava, never mind the sword, there is a more pressing question here (or is it just me? DH's Halloween Jack Sparrow outfit! What?? Why? Please explain more ... does he just wear it for the day for a laugh or is he going trick-or-treating?
Greyqueen congratulations on the change in your mum - it sounds as if she's really seen the difference it's made to you.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Yeah, PWD, something profound has shifted. Partially its the cold winds of mortality. Mum is a cancer survivor, five years clear, but she now has to contend with another serious and life-changing illness. I think it has brought home to her that there are some pastimes and their supplies which are very definately SABLE now, and that she will be leaving a heck of a lot of Stuff for someone (yours truly, basically) to process.
It'll be hard enough to mourn eventually without manhandling a landfill's worth of clutter at the same time.
Anything I can do, it make the place less cluttered so she's less likely to fall, and more able to relax and enjoy her retirement, I will do. I have set aside a 4-day weekend at the end of this month/ beginning of November, to go over there and exercise my MK mojo on their loft. She was expressing concern about the decision-making process and getting tired and I have explained my intention.
I will go into the loft with a clipboard and forage for two hours whilst she sits with a book, the cat, her knitting, the newspaper downstairs. We will break for a cuppa and discuss the items listed. They may be re-arranged, re-homed, brought downstairs for closer examination, whatever she wants, but she will be in control of the process, I will just be her hands, feet and eyes.So long as I am fed tea and cake at two-hourly intervals, I figure I can get through quite a lot. I will aim to get the three cat baskets whittled down to two cat baskets, these are very portable but take up quite a bit of space. I am expecting there to be tip runs and chazzer runs and Dad will assist with these. I can also drive his car up to their dump, if necessary, I am insured for it. The trick is not to allow the items to accumulate in the downstairs rooms where they might get stuck.
For giggles, I will itemise the funny finds and discards after the event. I have recieved assurances that there are no more sets of false teeth hidden anywhere on the premises............:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks! I was just so happy that I managed to get rid of the 24 bottles I had lying about over the last three months :rotfl: Dh said he would use them up, but kept buying his favourite brand, and I do not like putting cream on my body after I have just cleaned it in the shower.
