jinny - re the books. I do re-read an awful lot of them and have got rid of hundreds over the last couple of years by asking myself if I would read them again. Some I did read again and then decided that I would never read them again and so gave them away.
Last year I re-read my beloved Chalet School books which I started collecting when I was about 10, I can remember when I got the first and how I loved it - I am keeping them in case I ever have a grand-daughter. I'm not sentimental about many things but I now realise that I used to escape into my books because I didn't have a happy childhood and the books were my friends.
i loved the chalet school, and regret giving mine awayi sooo wanted to go to it - in fact i have been to Pertisau (Briesau). Although it wasn't so much a pilgrimage just that OH wanted to go on the railway - but it was the same railway that Joey and Madge and everyone went on (yes, i know they aren't real - don't spoil it :rotfl:)
ANyhoo i have now samosad my first carrier bags :TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hi Frogletina
I havent come across anyone throwing out belongings to anyone else on the thread. There has been some good natured humourous rants regarding discussions about other peoples things. It would be awful to do that. Im so sorry you no longer have your dolls house.
It would have been lovely to pass on.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I think MK is very clear in her book that you shouldnt kondo other peoples stuff and that she feels guilty about throwing away things that belonged to her siblings when she was little. I have read through the Mumsnet threads as well as this one (procrastination is my superpower!). It seems like people who have started kondoing their stuff and maybe just offering to fold their OHs stuff have ended up with OH quickly getting on board and wanting to join in whereas people trying to throw their OHs things away have then ended up with a lot of resistance to the whole idea.
Btw - 14 bras gone, 13 kept. Not sure about my little spending spree now as that still seems like a lot of bras. The only real gap in the collection is a nude t-shirt bra - not very exciting to shop for that though :-( I was hoping to have good reason to buy lots of the cute spring colours! Also, I'm struggling with the orphaned knickers from those decluttered bras - I should just chuck them right?
When doing my under and sleep wear drawers I found loads of new or very little worn knickers (I only really wear Sloggis as they suit my shape and give me a really clean line under trousers/jeggings, but I keep buying packs of unsuitable ones from M&S and other outlets - smacks own head), anyway I remembered that Give and makeup will take them for womens refuge

Quote In particular this group need the following:
•Underwear - bras and knickers. Washed and clean please! We all have underwear that no longer fits us in our drawers. And it's not heavy to post! end Quote.
As well as unwanted toiletries and make up.
I will be making up a parcel this week and will look though gifts received and include anything that does not suit my sensitive skin too.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Having KM'd all joint & my areas OH has had a big declutter, so I'ved KM'd all his wardrobes & drawers for him. He just came downstairs & said he loves his tidy drawers
By folding his stuff, I managed to get all his shoes (20 odd ) into his wardrobes, thus getting rid of the horrid shoe racks.
OH loves his clothes & shoes 3 wardrobes to my 1.
still haven't sorted photos, still in case under bed.0 -
Grr, I posted my chest of drawers last week. Tackled the top drawer and fixed the bottom which had fallen out.
Went to do drawer 2 today but, the bottom of drawer 1 fell out again and it fell off the runners so I think it is a dead chest of drawers :-(. So I might need to bite the bullet and get a new one.
Here is the kit. Click on the pic for detailed instructions. £2.45 for 10.

Hi all,
I have been reading this thread and absorbing the method! Now I am ridiculously pleased to have sorted the huge bag of carrier bags ...and folded them into neat triangles! and rolled all the tea towels and kitchen towels , there is room in the drawer for more, instead of trying to jam them all in and the drawer not shutting!
Loving all the info on being tidy, this may change me into a tidy person after 66 years!!

I have hundreds of photo,s and am finding this part quite hard. I hate throwing them away. I feel as though I am throwing the actual person away. I know, I'm mad.
Well I have been good and am now half way through. I'm leaving it now for a couple of days so I can regain my ruthfullness.
Is anyone else having trouble with photo,s.fiftyeighter - konmari says do photos and those other personal sentimental items LAST because of the emotional hardness of it all. by the time you've practiced discarding on all your less emotional household items you'll be up to Konmari ninja level 10 on the decision making scale and it will all feel a lot easier
I'm dreading doing photos, so I shall definitely leave those till lastweaving through the chaos...0
