Was away for a few days and happened to be in a large shoe shop. OH wanted shoes for his Christmas from me. At the till the SA was tearing up cute little cardboard boxes ( think they had held purses or evening bags.) She saw my horrified look and said "Do you want them?" "o yes please" says me." So I came away with 11 cute wee boxes and will be redoing the undies drawer and might have enough for my makeup and toiletries.
Having KMed my clothes there were a few gaps for winter and I bought a coatigan - it is a cross between a coat and a cardigan very cosy and it brings me joy.
It is so easy to pack when all my clothes bring me joy and you don't land up with loads of bits in your suitcase that you don't wear at home but might wear when you are away. Also folded in the KM way the suitcase is a joy to look in. :T

Aaargh, lost the post on Min's game day #25

There were 40 items, lets see if i can remember

6 brandy glasses - i have slightly rearranged the cupboard, no one will even notice they've gone
17 random CDs from office drawer - largely for computers / printers / cameras we either no longer have or for which we could get instructions online
1 dog tag - we have never owned a dog
    1 box football boot studs
    1 Norton 360 pack
    2 random BT cables
    1 cd of stagecoach travel
    1 i pod box
    1 empty glasses case
    1 camera strap
    1 set of earphones
1 bundle of outdated instruction manuals
    1 kids computer game
    1 50m swimming badge

Hmm. can't think of the rest - this will have to do. They've gone in the outside bin now and i can't be arrissed to go and look.

Another trolley load ready to go to the chazzer - hopefully later today. Came home from work with a sudden bout of gastro enteritis (luckily made it home first :o) and had a rough eveniing / night. It seems to have gone - most odd. Definitely not food poisoning as i had the works, aches, shivers - ah well, maybe I Kondoed a couple of pounds in the process ....

    :rotfl:
I wanna be in the room where it happens

The retailers will also lose the advertising on the bags if we all take our own :D Sometimes when I see a lot of people carrying the same bags around I think oh must pop in that shop as it looks like they must have some good deals :o So that will save me some money ;)I am a sucker for a good deal :)

GQ I also feel sorry for the staff when this kicks off. In the charity shop Sue R*der they have charged 5p for their bags for ages. I have seen customers in the shop refusing to buy what ever they have beacause of the charge on the bags.:o Saying no put it back I dont want it as I am not paying for a bag.

I think your two observations together offer an explanation mav. Many people resent paying to advertise a company (unless it's a label they want to show off about;)). Perhaps a slightly different attitude to a charity but even charities are earning a bad name currently. Retailers have wrapped goods free of charge as part of the service for as long as I can remember so people feel ripped off having to pay. I realise the environmental argument and I agree with it but because of the suspicion of retailers not everyone is convinced that they aren't being driven by money. I was perplexed a few months ago in M&S Food Hall. They wanted me to pay for a bag for the food items but happily gave me an enormous dark green bag for a pair of tights I put through the till at the same time. Where's the logic?

I won't be paying for bags unless absolutely necessary. I think the environmental ideals are sound but I'm still suspicious and cynical.
  • You get used to the plastic bag charge - I don't remember seeing people having strops at the tills about it. A lil sign saying it's now the law solves the problem.

I've not managed to clear much out for the last couple of days. Today will be a day for tidying and maybe some things can go
:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A

  • I work in retail and when the bag charge came into effect in Wales, it was awful. Not so much from the local shoppers, but the ones who come here on holiday! We had a lot of people refuse to pay 5p for the bag, and kick up a real fuss about it. And still do!

Inconsistent M&S policy has always irritated me. Getting clothing home delivered is even worse. I bought a pair of shoes recently and had to unwrap three layers of plastic packaging before I even got to the shoes... which were then stuffed with plastic bits for shape! But god forbid I want a separate carrier bag for the chicken in the meal deal...

I was quite satisfied to post back ALL the packaging with the one item I wanted to return. :rotfl:
  • The four-letter supermarket that I usually frequent has always charged for bage, but then I've been taking my own for years anyway. Helpful to learn that it's only the big stores that will be affected.

I took another six bags to the CS today, mostly books but also some kitchen stuff and that chrome bathroom bin! I'm already filling another bag, and I know what's going next - bathroom scales. I never use them, the battery is dead and frankly they have never helped me lose weight and I don't need them to tell me that I should eat less and exercise more.

A question - I changed phone and broadband supplier recently. Is the 'old' BT modem likely to be of use to anyone else or should I just bin it? I don't really understand these things, if I thought it could be used then I'd Freecycle it. or should I hang on to it in case I move back to BT?

Am I right in thinking the charge won't apply to paper bags? Primark already use paper and I suspect a lot of other clothes shops will as well. If you think you might buy something that doesn't fit in a foldable bag, like a coat, (or a saucepan, or whatever) it would be a real pain to lug a big empty bag around in your handbag just in case.

Aylesford paper mills must be rubbing their hands at the prospect
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

BT upgraded my router last year and I wondered what to do with the old one as the engineer didn't take it with him. I checked with BT and, apparently, you are supposed to return it - they sent me a postage paid return bag to send it back in
