OMG!
My son (the messie one)putting his gym bag together just now.
Dropped the neatly rolled gym towel on the floor where it unraveled
What happened next made my jaw drop. He picked it up and instead of just stuffing it in his bag............RE-ROLLED IT!!!!!!!!
amazeballs!”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick

Well its now been over a week since I got the book and what a difference its made....I still have quite a bit to go but I have got rid of sooo much stuff (its doing my nut in as its all in the passage waiting to be put into the shed - which needs re-arranging to get it all in - ready for car boot season) We have decided to do one car boot all clothes - anything not sold goes straight to the charity shop and then another all Komono - again, after that everything goes to charity. I was a great one for holding onto stuff for a car boot, dragging it there and back and not selling - those days are gone!
I also made a discovery about what I like to wear - I have been buying pjs cos its cold....however, these get pushed to the back of the drawers as I only really like to wear nighties in bed (and only a certain kind it seems) So the ones I never wore were happily Kondo'ed and I now know the kind I like and these will be the only ones I buy in future.
I now take pride in putting things in their proper places - its only takes a few mins when I get in from work insteand of dumping everything on the bed (ground floor flat - first door is my room!) I have designated 3 pegs each for our coats in the passage and thats really working well as nobody has to sort through other folks coats to find theirs.
These are all really simple things but what a difference they make...Kondo'ed 76 items from wardrobe, 4 carrier bags of books0 -
Quillow 101 for Dummies: http://youtu.be/ye-hCnUM460
This is exactly how I do my Quillows
they make lovely memory quilts. A single 4.5 tog cot quilt folds into a pillowcase
Or just use a brushed cotton sheet for wadding/batting
if you aren't a sewer just fold the quilt ito a cushion cover or fancy pillowcase.
Isn't the lady lovely she reminds me of my grannie.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I've nearly finished kondoeing. I'm quite minimalistic anyway.
- The kitchen is now finished. I sorted a box of household stuff like plugs, lightbulbs, fuses etc and paired bits and pieces together so I now have 1 box of those bits and another box of decorating bits. I've managed to gain a good empty space in 2 kitchen cupboards. All cupboards kondoed. Either kept, binned or to go to CS. Same with -
- Airing cupboard is also done with towels folded not rolled (as there's only me) and I have lots of new sets so I recycled the old ones to textile recycling. Sheets and bedding the same etc.
Bedroom - Matching hangers, clothes facing all the same way. Drawers (3) full of kondoed undies, PJs, socks and t shirts. Plastic boxes with summer stuff to sort (will Kondo and eBay in better weather) all vacsacked into 1 box. Handbags 4 (1 work, 1 brown, 1 black and an evening bag in a box with scarves (2), belts (4) in another plastic box. Best undies with matching sets kondoed in a plastic box and jumpers in another box too. Cycling wear in another plastic box.
I know she said about not stacking but I haven't space for bigger drawers. And I can see what is in each box and the ones I don't use as often get stacked on the bottom. I have 2 one side and 3 smaller boxes next to them. Dressing table sorted as well. Suitcase sorted with bikinis swimwear and holiday stuff ready to go. As well as a weekend bag ready to go when needed. Weekly swim things in a backback with towels, coins and small shampoos. Again ready to go....
All Xmas things, shoes, boots, photos all in plastic boxes under my bed out of the way so if I need them they can be pulled out. BTW these plastic boxes I've had for years so I haven't bought any new storage
Lounge - paperwork sorted in a fireproof tin, DVDs CDs books in one small cubboard in wall unit, with best ornaments kept in another which are displayed alternatively as there different colours for summer etc. All stuff I don't want CS.
Bathroom - quite small and have undersink vanity storage. If it didn't fit it went. Not much space so I'm using everything without buying new anyway.
Phew - now for a rest, cuppa and ironing.
I may also go through a 2nd Kondo and write a list of things I Need ie frying pan, black trousers. I will source these via e*bay or CS.0 -
My kitchen was the project for this weekend. I've never been happy with where I've stored things in cupboards. While I love the look of my kitchen it's never functioned for me and I've realised this week that I don't enjoy spending time in there.
My plan was to have a lazy Friday night and tackle the cupboards this morning. I couldn't relax though, the cupboards were calling to me. I decided to empty them out to get a head start on today and wiped out each one as I emptied.
I tried to put my equipment and foods in to categories on the sides and on the floor and I put most of it back in new homes too. So much for a lazy Friday.
I think the kitchen will need a bit of tweaking over the coming weeks but I'm happy with progress so far. Today I need to tackle the drawers and surfaces. I have all my cookbooks are out on the side. I'm hoping there will be room in a cupboard for them when everything's gone back.
I'm also not enjoying being faced with discarded items. I need to get in a run to the charity shops today. Luckily there are two near me so I can alternate.0 -

I did the same in the run up to Christmas - we replaced the lighting and decorated so I decided to have a change round and a throw out - when I did the there was much consternation from DD2 and OH but as I pointed it out I spend most time in the kitchen therefore I had changed it to suit me - end of. There was nowhere to go from there:DBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I had actually made a start on my kitchen before I read the book.
it never looked tidy I didnt like being in there at all
when I extreme MK'ed it. The morning after I came in to make a cuppa and just stood admiring the clean empty worktops.
I have a tiny kitchen so a few dirty pots and dishes make it look a tip very easily.
Blimey even two people can make it overcrowded:(
However now its a pleasure to cook in there.
I like the idea to change the lighting will try that.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)

Interesting about the Stuffocation book, I had heard about it and it certainly seems to hit the nail on the head.
I was chatting about decluttering to a young girl at work the other day, she is in her early 20s. She hadn't been feeling very well for ages - low energy, constant colds, not sleeping, generally out of sorts. She said that over Christmas, she cleared out her room with the help of her Mum. She got rid of over 10 bin bags of clothes as well as loads of other assorted junk. The room was transformed and so was she.
She is now sleeping properly, her energy is back, she is no longer ill. She loves her room and keeps it scrupulously tidy now. She says she thinks her room was making her ill - and I agree.
MK is right - tidying up can be life-changing.
