Slowly Kondoing OH's methods. He got a new pair of shoes yesterday and volunteered to get rid of the old ones - major miracle in this house!!
On the other hand, I've ground to a halt, despite having had a week off work. sigh ...Looking ahead0 -
Mav hope the sale went well - it's been a lovely evening for it.

Had a lovely lunch and afternoon with DD1 and her DH. She can be a bit prickly, but I went in with my happiness at full blast, determined not to have it blighted! I infected her!:rotfl:
We had a totally delightful, all relaxed (no alcohol!) and joyful. The most brilliant meet-up for years! (Thanks, MK!) :j
I'm considering going 'off piste' temporarily, with my kondoing, seeing as I'm starting from a more hoarded home than most of you.
My sub-project is going to be the Boxroom of Doom. I'm pretty sure that most of what's in there can go (except the [part] yarn stash). I'm so sick _pale_ of the komono everywhere, I feel I can be really ruthless. Might even make a start now.
I think that having, even a small, cluttered room cleared will give my kondoing a hefty boost. Then, I may be able to tackle the rest of my yarn stash that [STRIKE]is heaped[/STRIKE] lives in the LR - the stash will be stored in the spare wardrobe in the room, in those fabric shoe/sweater hanging shelf-thingies, the rest will be donated. I shall be able to see that I'm making progress.
Has anyone else tried this 'off piste' strategy, in a room or area? (Apart from the bedroom, which seems to follow, clothes, naturally?)
Any tips, advice, chivying, is welcome, please!Needs, NOT wants!

Grinning at the kontagious kondo-ing going on with spouses and offsprings. Funny how that often happens.
I don't own bathsheets, but have the bath towels folded in half widthways, rolled into sausages and stacked on one shelf. Hand towels are treated the same but stand upright in a couple of small cardboard boxes on another shelf. Only two teatowels are in use, and I'd forgotten I'd ranger-rolled the others, the ones which have been held back and contained inside a cloth drawstring bag. I'm doing this to concentrate the wear on only 1-2 items at a time, with the idea of wearing them up and getting them out for the ragging.
Spent 3.5 hrs on my allotment today, have done a major number on the 'patio' area and dug up the onions.
I have also cooked a brand-new-to-me recipe, Zucchini Pie, and very nice it is, too. I grated two huge courgettes and squeezed the moisture out, to reduce them to the three cups needed for the recipe. It'll be a useful reminder of what they reduce to.
I used the springform tin and was glad I followed the tip about putting a tray under it, because it did seep a bit. I will play with it on a few different recipes and may ultimately replace it, but at 59p, I'm relaxed about donating it if I have to.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi queen, I think it's a good idea to get a clear space, it will help you with the 'Tetris' problem when you have to move A out so B can go in there but meanwhile A can't go till C's been cleared.
Also, it is hugely motivating to get a specific area clear. Once I'd done my bedroom, I didn't want to sppil it When I had to move stuff in there (last time I had visitors) it really pushed me on to get rid of those boxes and bags, so I could see the floor clear, and I vowed never again!
While in general I think the category system works, sometimes it's just not practical and it's easier to do a room/cupboard. Good luck - you can do this!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Do not let my husband anywhere near Billy the Bass - I don't need more carp (bass, cod, tuna or any other fish) in my house. You know that collecting thing? Ducks, pigs, fairies, buddhas? Yeah, that - with my husband it's fish - and a singing fish would bring him deep joy.
Me? Not so much
I have three quiche dishes - three!! I can't remember the last time i made a s0dding quiche (let alone three). Do you even need a quiche dish to make quiche? I make pies in the lids of casserole dishes.
I also have a dish for olives, with a separate little compartment for the pits. Probably used every other year - if that. I think 2 ramekins will do the job equally well - don't you?
Bags and bags and bags of stuff has gone from this house - bootfuls - but it still looks fullIt's just that there is now little under beds and the cupboards aren't piled so high, but they are still full......
I have 5 lasagne dishes - I rarely make lasagne either......
:rotfl:
Wish you lived in S Wales. I batch cook for the freezer regularly and am always on the look out for quiche, lasagen, pie dishes etc. Ho hum, I suppose they might not have given me joy?
Got rid of a massive bag of clothes to chas shop today on the way to a lovely day out doing important shops like pound stripe and ald(s etc. My cupboards and full to busting with delicous things to eat and batch cooking has commenced. I can feel a lazy september coming on.
so, clothes done, kitchen done, utility room done, bedrooms done.
Left outside farm shed, workshop, paperwork in attic etc. Endless really.;)0 -
Feel I have a head start with this,
I do some sort of folding with all of my underwear, don't do the t-shirts yet as have not yet seen the video on how to do this, and the way I would fold would mean me ironing them again before wearing:(. Feel totally motivated, and although unwell atm, going to bed early with the intention of getting up early and starting. Can't wait .....:j

I got the complete world of quitting - 5 binders full of instructions, a bag full of the required fabric, all the templates ready cut out and laminated, along with the super king sized wadding backing fabric scissors and a few other bits all for £2. I couldn't resist.
So in answer to your question I'm making a king sized bed throw but in the folders there are suggestions for lots of things that can be used as gifts like cushion covers, water bottle covers, iPad/phone cases etc.
So far I've made 11 squares and am really enjoying it, I need 80 to complete the throw, would love to see photos of your quilting progress.
That's an incredible bargain, and what a lovely project for just £2!! I haven't learned how to do photos yet but what I have is a pile of hexagons, a bit like this:
I have to decide whether to just make a random design from them or to separate them by, perhaps, bordering each with a plain colour.
I've had some success with DH when he admitted returning polish and duster properly to kitchen cupboard when he normally just throws them back in:).
May I ask what might seem an odd question about storing clothes. What do you do about clothes that have been worn but aren't ready for the wash? I'm thinking of things like jeans or cardis. For years I've been happy piling them on a bedroom chair but now they're beginning to annoy. Do you store but still separate from freshly laundered? If everyone washes things immediately I'll just crawl off in shame.0 -

i went off piste with the "Harry Potter" cupboard (under the stairs for the uninitiated) and am thinking of doing similar with our office. Literally box it all up as though moving and only take out what we need when we need it for a fixed period (say 1 month) and then review the stuff left. I don't think I am brave enough to just throw the remainder out(for example, my Glastonbury stuff is in there which is only used once a year, but consider whether it needs to be in the office :-/) but it might make us think about what we actually need, and what of it needs to be in there. I also think that having the space cleared for a period of time might make us want to keep it that way.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

If its any help I hang them back in the wardrobe on the left of the hanging rail separated by the spare hangers so I know which ones have been worn before.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0
