Has anyone else noticed the lack of jumpers and coats in the charity shops? I went in our 3 local CS this morning and there were no jumpers or winter coats. Do they keep these in the back till the autumn/winter?

Spose its seasonal stock they are displaying now.... after all they only have limited space and they can hardly sell a summer dress in the winter.

Our CS told me they have stuff stored in the stock room for upcoming seasons, I took some Halloween and Christmas stuff and said I'd labelled the bags accordingly, she said that would save them going through it until the right time to sell was approaching.

Bagged a load of rubbish and found some vests DH had passed on to Ds1 last year still unworn in his drawers so they have gone in the CS bag.

O, iQueen - you have an Ottoman full of vintage fabric? Would you like to adopt me? ;)

I note a few errors in some of the above posts. People are keeping coats 'for best'. Tut, tut - Kondoites don't have 'best' coats, they have coats they love and enjoy wearing when they need to! :rotfl:

:o After 5 children? Pulease! I'll bear you in mind, if (when I can reach it!) I have anything you might like. :)

I did get to wondering about all these coats! Back in the old days (50s and 60s) I had a 'best' coat, a school coat and a 'too small' coat for playing out/messing about! :)

Fashion trends didn't come into it! Nor were 'jackets' invented - workmen wore Donkey Jackets, sailors wore Reefer Jackets, the rare car owners (men of course!) sometimes wore a short Car Coat, and 'ladies' wore fitted 'Costume' jackets (together with it's matching skirt!)

I live in a similar house these days - one heater, in one room, and less than 10 degrees in the LR most winter days. Also, I'm feeling the chill now I'm getting old! It's a real bu88er trying to wash up in a padded jacket - I must also look a bit of a bu88er, too in my Marig0lds! :rotfl:

I think it was Grey Queen who listed the coats sparked by a question re how many coats? Thanks for everyone else posting their lists. This made me go through the under stairs cupboard where coats are kept.

I have 3 coats: 1 fab grey/ silver dressy coat that I get tonnes of compliments for wearing, 1 ugly purple kagoule that stops me getting wet, 1 black trench coat for autumn/spring- not warm or too cold. At some point I will replace the kagoule and trench coat.

I think looking at everyone's posts that we all have the coats we need as well as love and that is okay.

Great idea to have a category that we can all analyse - it is very motivating. Comparing not competing. Thanks again.

I've got 100s of books but they do bring me joy and will be released as they are read.
I've read about 12 Michael morpurgo books over the last couple of weeks once I'm back at school they will all be donated to the school library.

Well done to everyone ridding their houses of junk and things that don't bring joy. My progress slowed down after April when I did the huuuge purge when I was off work on hols. I am off now for 2 weeks so will do part 2. 3 bags went to the charity shop today and I have been doing wee bits at a time since April. I had a box of around 200 biros and all have now been tested and reduced to around 50 that work.

I am not even going to list my coats but off the top of my head I know there are at least 5 faux fur coats. I love animal print and not keen on boho which looks more boohoo on me so have a very different wardrobe from most of you on here but I love it all now that it has been pared away.

I am planning the holiday of a lifetime for next year so need to kondo so weight and bring in additional £'s so will do another cull of clothing and items I haven't been able to part with so far in the hope of raising some income and losing some clutter.

I hope to finish the book this evening and start kondoing with a vengeance tomorrow.

I've started on the laptop this evening. It is running VERY s-l-o-w-l-y so I'm organising and purging old files to establish whether it is a lack of memory space (meaning the laptop can be rescued) or whether it is simply too long in the tooth for my needs. I've bought a 2TB portable hard drive and am enjoying going through old photos before I copy them over. Considering this is supposed to be one of the harder categories, I am finding it quite easy so far, although I am horrified at the number of blurry, out of focus photos that I have kept  Equally there are a fair few of people kondo'ed from my life as they didn't spark joy. Slowly but surely I am whittling them down to ones I genuinely want to keep before transferring them to the hard drive.
