I had two coats, one winter weight and one lighter trench. But the winter one had to go as it was not joyful. Need to find a replacement soon as it's already feeling like autumn out there! So officially, I am a one coat person at the moment.

Also need a third casual coat, as my trench coat thrown over my joggers when I'm just nipping down the road for milk is quite a sight. :rotfl:

I think it's normal to go in fits and starts, real life gets in the way sometimes. I have had a week with little actually Kondoing, but instead I have been reducing my fabric stash by making some things for a fair next week. I'm quite proud of this because I have a bad habit of acquiring stuff and then not wanting to actually use it. My mindset has definitely changed.

OMG, that's me! Buy some beautiful yarn, and prefer to fondle it! What a waste. (Now, where's that pattern for the luxury mohair that my sister sent me for Christmas?) :o

Must also get to the ottoman full of actual vintage fabric (1960s) when I worked in the Dress Fabric Department. Hope it has survived and still brings me joy!

Love the Coat/Jacket Lists! I went through mine, mentally, I have 7:

    1. Padded (inherited) for gardening, jacket.
    2. Lightweight, lined jacket - summer everyday go-to,.
    3. Jazzy 3-season, smart casual, jacket.
    4. Regatta outdoor fleece, winter everyday (bought as a present for me by my oldest son when he was a uni student in the 1980s! Bless!) Love it - still as good as new.
    5. Lightweight swing coat, for summer, posh. Rarely worn.:(
    6. Formal black cord coat. Rarely worn.:(
    7. Black velvet swing coat for funerals/posh. Rarely worn.:(

I have a couple of warm jackets for winter, indoors. One is a cool padded, burgundy cord jeans jacket, inherited from above son - very Boho! :j

6 Tailored jackets from when I was teaching - need to sort out which look good with jeans. (And donate the rest!)

There are also 2 coats hanging on the door of the Boxroom of Doom: a long black winter coat that made me look like a sack of potatoes, and a long grey military style coat, that my middle daugter left - won't fit her now post-preg. So both of those can go. Job for today! ;)
    Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j
    No debts.
  • O, iQueen - you have an Ottoman full of vintage fabric? Would you like to adopt me? ;)

I note a few errors in some of the above posts. People are keeping coats 'for best'. Tut, tut - Kondoites don't have 'best' coats, they have coats they love and enjoy wearing when they need to! :rotfl:

Coats.... i have two. One warm thicker one for cold weather. One jacket type thing for warmer weather. On weather like today, none is needed.:T

Goodness, haven't you all had a busy weekend, I'm feeling bad, but the sun was out all weekend where I live (sorry to those of you who had rain....) so I went out and about. A few 'ins' for the garden, but nothing for the house, so I'm happy with that! As I've stopped buying pretty much any tat for the house, I also treated myself to RHS membership AND I've booked canoe lessons!! Trying to stay true to my signature, more life experiences, less clutter.

Was going to make a start on my garden but my neighbours were being unbearably loud (music) and I ended up round a friends house instead just to get some peace. So annoyed at them. Grrrrr. However, has spurred me on to sort out house so I can one day move without having to have such a massive sort out or taking anything unnecessary with me. And no I can't go round and ask them to turn it down because their cat has moved in with me so I'm avoiding them at all costs :rotfl:

Coats....omg....yes, that is a hard one. I probably need to re-visit my selection.
Hot water bottles - YES - finally someone who understands me!! :p

Empty spaces...I love them!! Yes, it's tempting to try and fill them, but for now I'm loving just having an empty drawer, shelf whatever. It's like a badge of my achievement to motivate me to carry on.

Oooh actually just remembered I bought this adorable big storage bag at Home Bargains at the weekend...it was only £1.79....no I don't have a use for it 'yet'...that's a bit of a FAIL.
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

Just logging on to say well done everyone for all your hard work! :T:T:T I have been following the various activities with great interest, really related to the school uniform discussion :D
I have been keeping up with the thread but not posting for a while as too much RL followed by exhaustion has been getting in the way of MK activities.

Coats! I read all the posts and thought Wow! what a lot of coats everyone has. Then I counted up mine - errr,

    1. Black swing coat - funerals / posh
    2. Red jacket (a bit too small at the mo')
    3. Mauve raincoat for dog-walking (but not long enough so my knees get wet)
    4. Blue raincoat - for rainy outings which don't include the dogs
    5. Blue knee-length winter coat - not worn much recently but looooovvely joyful colour)
    6. Old grey full-length raincoat, with detachable winter lining, which needs a new button
    7. Waterproof jacket with warm lining for dogwalking in winter
    8. Waterproof jacket for dogwalking in not-winter (a mistake, as the sleeves are much too long)
    9. Green sleeveless fleece *
    10. Blue sleeveless fleece *
    11. Black sleeveless fleece *
    12. Black long-sleeved fleece for dog-walking (a bit too small at the mo')
    13. Pale green formal jacket bought for a wedding (and not worn much since)
    14. Yellow jacket which goes with yellow/multi print dress (not worn recently 'cos dress needs mending)
    15. Yellow sailing jacket - very water-and-wind-proof but poppers have rusted
    16. 25-year-old (at least) windproof jacket (ripped by my younger dog when a puppy) now hanging by back door for use in garden
    17. Beige (!!!) long-sleeved fleece jacket which lets the wind through very badly, hanging by back door for use in garden
    18. Light linen jacket for summer outings
    19. Brand new ! (but bought several years ago) navy jacket which doesn't really go with anything at present (but it was cheap! in a Sale!!)

    * can be worn indoors on chilly days

And that's just the ones I can remember, and after the Kondo of the Clothes too :eek::eek:. Must make a Coat-Kondo soon, I think!

Hmmm... coats (OH is far worse than me)

    1. Long woollen black coat which I love love love for smart/ funerals/ evenings
    2. short smart woollen black coat/ jacket - for anytime a short one works
    3. past-its-best Regatta wetcoat with removable fleece (17 years old) - v practical. Should look for a more joyful one, but this one keeps me dry in the meantime!
    4. thick (furry on the inside) Animal zip up hoody for everyday cold but dry weather
    5. thinner but still too warm for warm weather hoody (also has furry lining, but less of it) - more Spring/ Autumn everyday
    6. GAP gilet - really like - but not as much as no 7
    7. Fatface gilet - love love love

I do actually *need* a smart casual jacket for wearing out on an evening (eg with smart jeans) as I have nothing suitable. Haven't found a joy sparker yet

  • I came across this charity over the weekend, might be a good destination if you have anything with some life left in it that needs liberating.

    http://www.smallsforall.org/

What I find interesting, is that everytime I read this thread, I start making a mental list of what needs to go.
For example, I bought a lovely new Hobbs coat in May (several times reduced in an Outlet shop :D) But the very un-joyful duffel it was bought to replace is still lurking.

The aim this week is to put together another CS bag, there are several other things that can keep the coat company.
  • I just have the one black wool coat now is that bad?
The bad thing I suppose is that I really don't like the coat!!! I don't like the look of it, I don't like how I look in it, it doesn't have a hood and it's not even waterproof!
It's from a well-known plus size shop, so just debating if I should sell them on ebay from September, or just charity shop it now?

Currently staring at lots of bags to go to the charity shop! Just done the dreaded plastic cupboard (not too bad!) and have the pan cupbard next.

Yesterday I kondoed around 50 coat hangers, still more to sort through. Not sure why I have so many!
