Another one who had 'ditched the coat' I do have a gardening coat which hangs in the shed. My very expensive 'into the mountains/walking ski jacket. Fleeces a plenty and a down jacket for when I want to be Mr Michel!n in the snow:rotfl: The only 'coat' I posses I leave at work and wear for playground duty.........as for posh nights out if and when they happen I just roll up in either ski jacket, fleece or down jacket..........I mean you take your coat off dont you!! Oh and I dont own a brolly either - hoods for me;)Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I need my long coats, three in different weights, as I walk to client meetings and find these the most effective means of keeping my suits dry. I also have a number of jackets as, for all the reasons stated above, I prefer these when not "in uniform". For example, the really soft suede one, the lovely purple cord one, etc. they do take up space though.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. I have rather more coats than many on here
(not as many as GQs list though)
1 the fancy long hippy style coat, which I love, but isn't as warm as coat 2.
2 the long padded coat, which keeps me warm walking to the station
3 the ski type jacket for really cold days
4 the cream sheepskin jacket, not as warm as the three above and which, to my surprise has survived the Kondo Kut.
5 the very light summer jacket, worn rather more than usual this year
6 the jacket that falls in between 5 and 6, probably an autumn jacket.
7 the soft shell jacket, because I don't like fleeces on me, that is a good walking jacket.
8 the standard trench (with a twist)
9 a rather posh Kagoule from sea salt (as well as a couple of bog standard kagoules)
Ooh that is rather a lot after all
A couple more were recently Kondoed, one was well worn, already dyed once, thanked and sent on its way. One was a mistake buy.
Shamefully 5, 6 and 8 are beigeI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
GreyQueen, that made me spit my tea out! I refer to my post from a week or so ago, when I helped my friend declutter her coat rack and she threw out 31 coats! I couldn't understand how she'd accumulated so many. Now I know.
I have a long winter coat, necessary for work - it was inherited from a friend who lost weight. I may replace it this year. I have a short winter coat and a short mac, again needed for work as I sometimes have to be outside but look smart. And I have a waterproof which covers categories 2-6. I'm feeling smug - I may still have hoards of embarrassing Stuff (unopened raspberry vinegar from 2007, anyone?) but my coats are lean and fit!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. My house is getting there - I kondo'd enough to be able to decorate 2 bedrooms and refloor them with minimal disruption to the rest of the house. In the process I needed to liberate a large chest of drawers that was in my study to the spare room but this then left me with a lot of stuff to rehome in the study.....luckily as I was pondering the issue a 2nd hand sideboard appeared on a local FB selling page - ideal size but pretty naff to look at. I snapped it up (bargain price) and spent a few hours sanding and waxing and made it into something lovely - matches the room far better than the chest of drawers ever did.
2 black bags of stuff in the car waiting to go to the CS later today, it just seems to keep jumping out at me now."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Morning all
Hope everyone is well
The plan this week is to do LOTS!!!!
The table has disappeared over he weekend, mostly knitting stuff and weekend papers and mags so should be easily solved. Lots of washing done and dried so I need to fold/roll/iron today and clear that.
DD2 rang me from her attic!!! (As you do) her partner has two children boy5 and girl8. They've just had a little boy together. She has bags of the children's clothes in the attic, she'd saved some of the older (girls) stuff that looked unisex but was pinkish in colour and hello kittyesque Brother said he wanted to wear it and has now changed his mind, her question does she save it Incase they have a girl in the future. My answer NO!!!!! Explanation, even if with a 14 week old boy you decide to have another straight away and it is a girl it will be at least 4 years before she's wearing any of that stuff, by then will you want your child in such OOD clothing?
DD2 added she was glad I'd said that as she just wanted someone to agree she wasn't wasting money. They live in a rented house that they are looking to swap in a couple of years so it would mean transporting the stuff to elsewhere. (Before they even knew if they needed it) I pointed out the carboots/chazzers are so cheap and well stocked now that you can buy what you need when you need it.
Their little one is growing really fast and is already too big for 3-6mth clothes so I'd picked up 6-9mth trouser and dungarees at the boot on Sunday. She was delighted as he's only got 2 pairs in that size so has enough now and all the ones I bought were washed yesterday ready to go.
I saved bags and bags of clothes from my children and when grandchild arrived ended up CSing or binning most as they looking OOD and had pretty much died in storage!
I think Dh is getting the message, DS1 for reasons only known to himself brought a box of old broken violin bows that needed re stringing home from high school when he left there (a teacher gave him them as they were being thrown away) - he's 20 now!!! They have never been used or restrung I've put them on freecycle multiple times no takers. So they got taken to the skip at the weekend. Dh said " we should have just thrown these away as soon as he brought them home, instead of allowing them to take up space in our house for 6 years then doing it!"
Watched another DVd last night Mel gibbons " how I spent my summer vacation" which really should have been subtitled "this will take up space in your house and waste 90minutes of your life!!" It has left this morning to be put in the help yourself box Dh has put in the workscanteen.
Right I'm off to set up the ironing table and then find the dining table.SPC~12 ot 124
