Thanks, Polly, I'd agree with you about not liking different plain black socks, know exactly where you're coming from with that one. My intention is to run my sock-ventory down to almost nothing then restock with about 2 or 3 x 5 pair packs of new identical ones.
I've been truly feeling the kondo joy in my little kitchen. Whole room is only 6 x 6 ft, there is very little by the way of countertops, and it's such a relief to have less stuff in there. And so easy to clean up.
But the main thing for me is the visual calmness caused by lack of clutter. I'm a very visually-oriented person, plus I have ME, and can easily suffer from a degree of overwhelm if there's too much stuff to look at. I find blank surfaces very calming and restful.
I'm always wryly amused to hear people declare that they've got better things to do with their lives than tidy up, when you can see them wasting a lot more time than you ever spend tidying, in searching for their lost posssessions. And yet they speak as if you're the sad sack who ought to get a life.:rotfl:
Reminds me of a time when I worked with some people. I'd get myself up, drive for an hour to get to the other party's house, to go with them to various places in their van. Bearing in mind I'd had to be up and out long before them, I'd find this couple in a muddle every darned time I arrived. You'd just about get them ready to leave and they'd have lost their van's keys and or their house keys.
Cue lots of shouting at each other about who'd last had them, running up and down stairs, ransacking multiple bags, pockets in several jackets, the dresser, the sofa, the drawers. All very acrimoniously, with their kid and their dog getting stressed. Eventually, ususally after 10-15 mins, the keys would be found and we'd settle in their van in an atmosphere of seething resentment between the couple.
After the nth episode of this, I tentatively suggested how about they put a board with cuphooks up on the wall and hang the keys up when they came in? Oh, we tried that, the woman cried, But no one could remember to hang them up!Sadly, this level of disorganisation permeated all aspects of their lives. I had to stop working/ socialising with them, it drove me nuts.Yup, chaos is a major time suck. I haven't the time or the patience for it.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning All - thanks for the good chuckles to get me going this morning. A big bag of clothes going to the CS today AND 4 Tupperware jugs (why??) I collected Willow plates - I've culled a load but they do need to be revisited. Going out early today to get the carp out the door!

PollyWollyDoodle wrote: »The weird thing is that since I Kondoed the sock drawer, I don't have any odd socks. Now you might think that as someone living alone, doing only my own washing, there's no reason to ever have odd socks but the Sock Monster (who lives somewhere in the washing machine) has previously orphaned any number of hosiery items. Somehow, everything is staying in pairs now.
GQ beware, my black socks drive me mad because it's so hard to get exact pairs after washing - this may not bother you, but I can't bear having one sock that's longer/tighter/thicker than the other, unless you buy totally identical socks they are liable to get muddled! Maybe that's just me though.
Ha ha yes yes yes at the 'orphaned' socks!! I have a special drawer where I place odd socks until their twin arrives! Sometimes they NEVER do! Where ARE THEY??!!
I've stopped buying black socks altogether now, I will buy black with a bit of pattern for example!
Can't wait to escape from work and get on with some de-cl....er...kondoing...!! I'm feeling really inspired - at lunchtime, I'm going to close an ancient bank account today, with £8 which has been sitting in it for literally more years than I can remember, in the spirit of MK!! Any suggestions how to treat myself with my £8:rotfl::rotfl:

Maybe i ought to be ashamed to admitting to not owning a single pair of socks. If i'm cold and sleeping alone i'll admit to pinching a pair of my sons but thats as far as it goes. Why buy a pair when i can pinch his?
When he leaves home i suppose i could pinch hubbies (but i prefer my sons because hubby has bigger feet). I dont have odd socks to contend with either. Both hubby and my son have 7 pairs, no more no less.
No liberating will be done by me today as i have decided to move hundreds of photos from one online storage provider to another. Seems easy enough but i'm having a few problems with the transfers. its going to take days at this rate.
Notice how i use the word liberating instead of Kondoing.... Well i use the term loosely as i still havent bought the book. I will do but not just yet. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Oh goodness Judi, you reminded me that during my 'electrical and gadget' clear out I found loads of floppy discs with goodness knows what on them - pictures and old things like my CV on I recall. I would like to get these off and stored onto a hard drive, but of course I don't have a floppy disc reader - do I buy one just to do this???Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!

Julie, maybe you could ask on the Techie section if theres a way round it. Failing that can you borrow one?
I am trying to get all my bits and peices together online and in one place (well 2 places really) as i dont want to lose anything due to a fault on their end. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I dont wear socks between April and October whatever the weather /temperature......is that weird?:D So socks are currently neatly rolled up in the drawer for another couple of months. I only wear shorts when gardening between April and October too...........OK really weird:eek:
Have taken unwanted towels and bedding to local pet chain store who collect for the local RSPCA centre - article/plea in local rag requesting such items which was serendipitous I guess,as I had a bag full and was wondering what to do with it in the sense of getting it out of the house asap:D

I don't want to be 'summer':( I have just seen someone on TV wearing pale blue and it looks so drab and boring:rotfl: I will have to have another look at the summer colours as I am sure there are some bright colours (I hope so!)
You could choose hot pink, or a vibrant purple with lilac accesories. Turquoise is a bit more lively than pale blue, and orange is a very summery colour and popular just now.
All the neon colours are out now too, but I am not that brave!0 -

I think it was my lank of punctuation that made the bin men sound so rubbish.:o
Have had my roots coloured, and nipped round mils to do a couple of jobs for her so back home now.
Need to hang washing out in the sunshine then I'll think of what to kondo next.SPC~12 ot 124
