So I've konmarie'd the house, last thing to do is my photos, all stuffed in a case.
I still have stuff around the house that brings me no joy, but its OH's. Oh well, maybe I can work on him Lol.
my books arrived so off to read it. Might be stuff I've missed, plus theres the garden, lots of stuff out there that gives no joy.
I've loved tidying & folding, chucking out to cs. House needs a good spring clean now.
It's also made me start buying organic meat, eggs, dairy, plus green household cleaners, very strange 0 -

Oddly enough I have experienced a bit of an epiphany with food too.
I have been flirting with a Paleo diet for a few months because I have a grain intolerance, but never really fully got grips with it.
However, Since I began decluttering in earnest and adopting some of the KonMAri principles I have now fully embraced Paleo. I buy organic where I can, and have completely Kondoed the carbs and sugars. I feel much better, my tummy is much happier and I've even started losing weight.
I have no carb or sugar cravings or those awful hunger pains and IBS symtoms, no acid reflux.
As part of my Kondoing I have found OTC antacids all over the house, in coat pockets, handbags, cupboards and drawers. I realised I haven't needed any since I modified my diet.
This Kondoing is turning out to be a real life changer for me - in more ways than just having a nice tidy house.0 -

I have followed a starch free diet since last April, I suffered from IBS for years, all gone, plus am ideal weight, which was a bonus. I think the kondoing has cleared my mind, to think of whats important to me. I love it0 -
Just popped home for lunch and a quick thread catch up.
Even though I haven't kondo'd the kitchen yet I have been keeping it tidier since I started this 'journey ´ and like others have posted, I'm finding interesting how it's spilling over into other areas of life and my attitude towards things.
I think the cleaning posts are helpful Jinny. Once the house is organised the most efficient means of cleaning it is the next step for me.
I think I've said before I've never been a neat freak. If you'd asked me last week I'd have said life is too short to fold a carrier bag but something in this book has really clicked with me and I'm hoping it's a long term click and not just a phase.0 -
LESSON LEARNED
I'm sorry to hear of your experience with charity volunteers
I worked in a shop years ago with some old dears that obviously didn't want me there.
Church ladies as well bunch of old witches if you ask me.
They spent more time drinking tea then running to the loo
One in particular used to leap from the back room when she heard me open the till to serve a customer. She watched me like a hawk with the cash.
I told her I hadn't stolen anything in my life and I wasn't about to start now SO GO AWAY!
She didn't bother me again
Until we noticed someone stealing a pair of shoes ( from a charity shop!!!!)
She told me to run after them I refused as they looked rather rough.
She reported me to area manager who said she didn't blame me
And indeed gave me a fabulous reference when I returned to paid work soon after.
Charities do give out references for jobs and it does look good to potential employers. I learned to stock take use an electronic till and stick up for myself with c*** from difficult colleagues.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

That's so me too, but this book I don't know it's changed me so much.
I actually put on a bit make up today. Ran my hand along my neat clothes rail to pick out an outfit just to pop out to the shops.
Normally I would have thrown on any old thing and ran out hoping not to bump into anyone.
I'm sure I've been brainwashed! Lol”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)

I'm really interested to read this book after just originally being slightly curious when I requested it from the library.
Just found out that its 'in transit' to my library so I should be able to pick it up Saturday. Can't wait!AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. I discovered Marie Kondo last year and although I didn't finish Kondoing my house because we went on holiday and I lost momentum, the bits I did do continue to give me enormous pleasure.
However ranger rolling was new to me. I don't think I will use it for towels and tea towels because I like to iron my tea towels for hygiene reasons and they look so nice in a pile. And they happen to fit just right in a kitchen drawer. Towels and sheets/duvet covers, I fold in half and in half again then into thirds. This means I can put them on a shelf in the airing cupboard and only have folded edges showing. Makes it easy to grab just tthe one I want.
But it is a fantastic technique for slippery fabrics where they don't stand up no matter how many times you fold them. I have quite a few thermal tops in a sort of jersey which are now ranger rolled and that has freed up a bit of room. Camisole strappy tops are also brilliant done this way and I can tell them apart from other tops
I think I will also use it for gym clothes which, ahem, don't get used all that often but which take up a lot of room in the drawer and make me feel irritated as well as guilty when I fight the drawer open. Who knows it might even make me use them - although I would be surprised if I find them bringing me joyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Oh dear - what have you done to me?
I've reduced my underwear/PJ/other squashed in 3 drawers to 1 and a bit.
Have done T-shirts now & they also have found a home in drawers
Scarves/gloves/hats now in empty drawer - perfect for this time of year.
And what is my analysis from this so far (guess what I do for a living?)- I feel a second purge will need to be done later in the year
- Like many of you I detest shopping and the fact that most of my discards have gone to the rag bag rather than Cash4Clothes or CS shows how long I wear them. I have kept things that I feel I will still use (& as an MSE this means they give me joy) but I have a feeling that when worn they will fail the test.
- I had so much more stuff than I thought - horrified.com
- I can now be knocked down by a bus & not die of embarrassment at state of underwear
- I now have a wee list of things I need to buy - and a list of things I don't
- Previous stacking system (piling) means that some of the tops put away are shocking in an ironing state - I need to re-do them (but as halfway through a lot of washing this will wait a few days
- And like the rest of you - I am feeling an inordinate amount of pleasure gazing at my drawers
Am now itching to get into the laundry cupboard - but as before, will probably not cull as much as MK would like. Stuff we have will see us through many years and as both are over 50 (me only just) we seem to be in the process of setting up our retirement hope chest - the less we have to buy on a pension in years to come the better.
Confession time:-
I threw out a set on knickery-type things my Mum bought for me as a teenager - approx. 35 years ago.
Memories - yes;
Joy - no

My book arrived today - excited!! Already started on the clothing cull. Hardly any of them bring me joy but can't afford new/CS. I've been reading the tips people post up but I'm still unsure how to do my kitchen cupboards any ideas?:T Looking forward to the future :T0
