I did my socks drawer last night and am working on books again. Although MK says not to open the books up and look inside (!!!) I have to do that to decide what I really do want.

I have resold books on Amazon for years (as well as occasionally CDs and DVDs). Some books I was waffling about keeping or not have turned out to be a bit rare and worth in excess of £20. That makes it easy to decide to list them and let them go! Likewise if there are loads of copies for a penny it's easy to let go because I know I can get another copy cheaply.

So I've konmarie'd the house, last thing to do is my photos, all stuffed in a case.
I still have stuff around the house that brings me no joy, but its OH's. Oh well, maybe I can work on him Lol.
my books arrived so off to read it. Might be stuff I've missed, plus theres the garden, lots of stuff out there that gives no joy.
I've loved tidying & folding, chucking out to cs. House needs a good spring clean now.
It's also made me start buying organic meat, eggs, dairy, plus green household cleaners, very strange

Wow!! It's going to take me the full 6 months and then some....:(

  • Have manage to tackle my spare toiletries. Hardly anything thrown out as that would be too difficult!! They were stored in a plastic lidded box but wouldn't ever stand up straight so we're messy and untidy. Don't know if I saw it somewhere or dreamt it up myself but have used cut-down magazine files and now much better.

:) The magic which is MK continues to seep into all corners of the Kultists' lives. We will exchange triangular folded carrier bags instead of masonic hand shakes.

I have the rolling rack from the kitchen in my living room. Generic kinda thing, you've all seen them if haven't actually got one yourself; chromed metal, three tiers, on castors, marketed as a vegetable/ storage rack.

I used it to keep some of the extra things which floated around in my tiny kitchen and the only place for the rack was part under a counter which was jutting out into the room, and obstructing a cupboard door. Once having it removed to set up the washer last week, I decided I much preferred the kitchen without it, and will be able to rehome/ release the Stuff which lived on it quite easily.

:o But I paid good money for that, it is one of the very few rare things in my life which I actually bought new, not from jumbly, chazzer or bootsale. So, I was holding onto it because of my investment but not wanting it in my life, and there was no alternative place to put it.

Had a LBM; Mum has a plastic-coated veg rack which she does use, same type, but older and the plastic is cracking off in chunks and it looks bad. I know it vexes her and thought to offer her this one. She'd like it, and will take it at some point in the next 2-3 months when they visit by car (I visit them more often than they visit me, but I ride the bus). So, it's a bit of an annoyance right now, but the end is in sight.

We moved onto the discussion of the mirror which she passed from her bedroom to mine about 15 years ago. Cannot use it as no room to have a full-length mirror on display, but felt I should offer to return it. Before I'd even got the whole sentence out, she told me I could donate it to the c.s. Yippee!

Didn't get my donation bag out today as when I got out of work, it was sleeting and I fancied retreating indoors to the warmth, but will aim to do that tomorrow. Will ask them if they'll take the mirror as well, before I cart it down there.

I feel a bit daring as now only have one pair of shoes. I only wear shoes for work, the rest of the time I live in trainers or my gardening or hiking boots. But surely it's a little......I dunno.........out there, just having the one pair of proper shoes?

Then I thought how long shoes last me (years), as I am only 5 mins from my work and have a sedentary job. And that I have several shoe shops less than 5 mins from home, and as long as I have some spondulicks, I can easily replace them as they wear out.

And, then instead of feeling a bit vulnerable, I remembered the happy simple state of childhood, when worn out/ outgrown shoes would be replaced at need, not want, and I'd often wear the new ones out of the shop and dump the wornout shoes in the bin.

Have just done laundry, and thanked my wonderful new washing machine for its service. It's been with me for 9 days and is being carefully coddled, its doorseal wiped out to dry it so it won't go mouldy. Have racked laundry for drying, then will come the deep and illicit joy of Kondo folding it back into its drawers...........:rotfl:

Omg GS that memory of getting new shoes
Clark's sandals in the summer and proper leather big round toed shoes for winter. Wellies for snow with sand shoes for inside school
    We had a sandshoe bag!
We couldn't wear shoes out you grew out of them
You were taken to a shoe shop wearing the old scuffed ones
    That "tuff" Polish couldn't revive
Then came out wearing the new ones after giving the old ones to the shop assistant to bin
We didn't have loads of shoes usually only the one pair
For school maybe paten leather pumps for Xmas parties
I only have a good pair now and about three casual
A pair of leather walking sandals I call my off road sandals
And one pair of winter boots it's all I need.

That's how I feel too but not daunted by the prospect.

Well done Jules - you'll have to keep popping in to keep us on track when you're finished and tell us that you haven't had a rebound to your old ways :)

My son turned up unexpectedly tonight so I've sent him off with his bag of book. It's an evening of checking what can be 'bought back' and what's for the charity shop for me.
  • Confession time:-
I threw out a set on knickery-type things my Mum bought for me as a teenager - approx. 35 years ago. :o

Clootie, I enjoyed all your post but this bit made me laugh out loud :rotfl:.

Though I'm not entirely sure what a 'knickery-type thing' might be :D.
