I'm looking forward to tackling my komono. I had to chuckle when she describes the lovely pots, tins and boxes we collect with all kinds of bits and bobs we have no real purpose for but keep just in case.

    I don't think I'm ready yet though!

After dinner I'm going to take all the remaining books off the shelves. I don't think I'll be finished with this category tonight.

Also if you supply your email address they will email you about twice a year to let you know how much your donations have sold for. A few weeks ago I found out ours had made over £100 - very gratifying!

Yup just had mine........makes the purging worthwhile and for me, its it pleases me that 'discarded stuff' has a value and must be kept out of land fill as much as poss :)

  • While I was out today I briefly looked for some tops, just two tops, so I could get rid of all the ones I have accepted no longer bring me joy.
But nothing. I think I hate shopping more than I hate wearing clothes that are short on the joy factor.

I'm not overly keen on shopping myself. It appears to be the law that if you are looking for something specific , you can't find it. It's when you are looking for something completely different that you'll come across two perfect tops.

These things like to catch us unawares :).

    :j I got the book!

Collected it from the library after work and read like a mad thing before going to class, then now back, catching up on the board, then back to more reading. She's an odd one, isn't she? Delightful, but odd. Mind you, I did spend a chunk of my childhood absorbed in the Dairy Book of Home Management, trying to work out how to live in a disorganised household; suffice to say Mum and I have different views about Stuff and she used to frisk my wastebasket as a kid to make sure that I wasn't throwing any good stuff away.

Today, I am wearing a top which I had forgotten I owned, it was under other tops in a rammed drawer and just hadn't seen the light of day. With my tops Kondo'd, I can see exactly what I have. I have plenty and I propose to wear items that have been hidden for a while, to check they're still my kinda thing, and to release them to serve someone else if they're not.

I think the thing about better arrangement of what you have is that it allows you to appreciate how privileged you are to have so many choices, and it's certainly going to stop me buying more clothes at the c.s. as I really have plenty.

:o In the mornings when I open my socks and underwear drawer, and stare down at my lovely sushi-rolls of socks and knicks, and decide which ones I will wear that day, it's almost like choosing choccies from a box. I don't just wrench the drawer open a fraction and claw out the nearest pair, it's a considered choice.

It was news to me that I had 4 identical pairs of socks in one design and 3 identical pairs in another. If asked, I would have said 2 pairs of the first and one pair of the second. Astonishing, isn't it?:rotfl:

Overall, I have noticed that I spend more time these days wondering why people have such a lot of stuff. When someone tells me they have 300 movies on DVD, I bite my tongue to avoid bluntly asking why? in a way which could be construed as rude. I don't think I could find 20 movies I liked so much that I would want to watch them again and again, and keep them with me.

I'm mentally adding items to a c.s. bag which I will deal with this weekend, and am looking forward to doing laundry and then folding it a la KonMari and then slotting it back into the drawers and then choosing another option to dress with next time.

  • Still Kondoing happily away...I broke down my list a bit from hers so this is what I have done so far (in less than a week!)

All clothes, accessories & shoes - Done
    Books - Done
    Make up - Done
    Candles and holders - Done
Magazines - Done (huge pile recycled as I simply dont know why I was keeping them!)
    Skincare products - Done
    Everything in bathroom - Done
Paperwork - Done (huge bin bagful to be got rid of)
Tea towels and flannels - Range rolled
Linen cupboard done - Fitted sheets now beautifully folded
    Towels - Done
Statonery - Done - all pens now corralled either on my desk or my magnetic holder on the fridge
Handbags sorted (storing ones inside others with their handles out - genius)

As I have been beavering away dh quietly took himself off and sorted out his desk and dd also sorted out 2 drawers of her own! Methinks its rubbing off!
Next I will attack the kitchen - did all the food cupboards just after Christmas but its dinnerware and china I have loads of ....

(Have been taking before and after pictures and showing them to the girls at work who think Im a bit odd but are still impressed!)
Kondo'ed 76 items from wardrobe, 4 carrier bags of books

My spare room is covered in books but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Yesterday I was happy enough with what I had sorted for the charity shop. But as I was taking all the books down tonight I knew they wouldn't be going back. It's amazing how handling things helps put in perspective what they mean to you.

I have a pile for my son to decide what he wants to do with. A small pile I think a friend will enjoy and quite a few piles that I need to check the codes on to see if I can get money for or charity shop.

I now have one empty book case and the other is half full.

    Ladies of the Kondo-club,

I fear I am losing my touch. I am so busy creating space with my Kondo folding that I am forgetting to throw things out. Case in point: last night I bought 4 flat-ish crates to help to organise a double-width cupboard shelf. The items filled 2 1/2 crates, one of which is active slouch-wear...the remaining is gym stuff / items I could wear and would be handy, but don't...but they're just too expensive to ditch.... :o. So although it is a v neat space, I feel somewhat unsatisfied with the result. I may compromise by reducing the 2 full crates into just one.

KonMarie is right. Hiding things in cupboards brings no joy whatsoever. The ruthless cull must continue! :D

PS Feel knackered after just 2 days at work. But cannot sleep until the dishes in the kitchen sink (just a couple of mugs and a bowl) are washed and dried up, and the recycling disposed of.

    Send your books on holiday!

If you have just a few books to discard, or some favourites that might like a journey, check out this website! You can set your books frree to travel the country, or even the world... and sometimes, you can track their travels!

    Book Crossing

Another way of discarding, is to put a book in your bag and just leave the book somewhere, for some lucky person to find! You may want to put it in a plastic bag, in case of rain before it is found! Some shops or cafes will let you leave it there if you ask politely, otherwise, garden walls, bus shelters, on a bus, in a taxi, train, hospital waiting area, public bench, cinema, anywhere!

Beware of leaving books that are unsuitable for children, in places where they might access them.
