Judi, discard it and start saving for a new one that fits perfectly!

Its way down the list of priorities i'm afraid. Mandarin collars are pretty unusual these days but i do know a pretty good leather shop that takes on commissions.

    Maybe one day.

I have never lined drawers with anything. My drawers are clean but bare.

What am I missing? Seriously, purple and cats and other loveliness aside (and those honestly would be enough to appeal to me) … I can see scented. But beyond that, what is the point? I feel I'm missing something and moving towards many more drawers in the whole vertical storage fold malarkey so would like enlightenment pretty please.

Please don't evict me for ignorance or whatever heinous sin of omission unlined drawer ignorance exposes …..

I originally started lining my make up drawer and it's twin because they would get really manky (iceshadow powder, crushed bronzing balls, bits of hair from brushes etc) and it saved the nice drawers from getting disgusting (I would just shove anything in either drawer so they were a total mess) They are now beautifully tidy and all unwanted crud / old make up has been removed (I actually did this pre KM - KM came along a month or so later - clearly I was ready for it!) and things are stored together in little open tins (again, done pre KM lol) I already had the purple drawer liners (which are also scented) but hadn't used them in those drawers before because they were too nice :o When I'd put them in my stockings drawer, knicker drawer and bra drawer (yes, I have a drawer for each of these things!:o:o) I used the leftover ones to line my tidy other drawers.:D I also tuck old perfume bottles into my drawers nowadays :)

ETA: My bedroom furniture is all handmade (craftsman) wooden furniture - no flat packs/ plastic coatings in sight - so the linings in the make up type drawers were there for necessary protection originally, now a little bit of just-in-case protection, and because it looks pretty. In the underwear drawers they're there because they are pretty (and did smell nice, although I think the scent has now gone!)

I had to nip to her loo, whilst washing my hands i noticed that she has 5 toothbrushes in a cup on her sink???????? She lives alone.

I had to ask about them, "ah well 2 of them are old that i haven't got around to throwing out yet, 2 of them are new that i am not going to use as they match the bathroom perfectly and the last on is mine"
my mind just boggles at that, a toothbrush that matches the decor, come on, do people really do that?????? Or is it just me that doesn't?

:o:o You mean it's not the normal thing to do to buy toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower gel, bubble bath (and even disposable razors) to tie in with your d!cor....??? Ooops....:o:o

:) I like mandarin collars a lot and they really suit me, too, which is a happy conjunction. You see them about on tops from time to time.

Yup, lining drawers was about preventing snags from the wood to your clothes, something pretty redundant in the age of plastic-coated furniture. I don't line the drawers I have as none of them are proper wood. Newspapers as drawer liners can seriously derail decluttering attempts if you get distracted by twenty or thirty year old newspapers.:rotfl:

Have been on the allotment and done two tip runs, so 4 IKEYA bagfuls of weedy carp off the plot. Also remembered the alarm clock into the electrical waste on the second trip, I'd put it in my pocket but had still managed to forget it on the first run, doh.

Pal passed by and I made them come and help themselves to strawberries, there's plenty and that's the second load I've shared in as many days, which is a good feeling. Plus two plastic punnets and a carrier bag exited, too.;)

Not a lot of kondo-ing going on at the homestead, but am reading books which belong elsewhere (back to their owner, back to the chazzer, back to the library). Plus a pair of PJ bottoms has suddenly got religion. The fabric is tissue-thin with wear so not a patch job. They shall be washed, thanked and added to the rag bag which goes with the chazzer donations.

Righty, time for a litte interwebulation then up the road to visit a pal. Then I shall cook a big pot of chili and bake bread, because that's just what you need to do on a warm day, isn't it?

My drawers are only lived because the bedroom suite was my parents' bought in 1954, the guest room furniture is another 1950's suite and the random CoDs are both 1960's solidly built ones...no flat-pack in our bedrooms ;)

    Afternoon Konverts,

I survived my friends clutter yesterday only just.
when i arrived she was in a huge cupboard throwing things out of her way as she was looking for a jacket, I made us a cup of tea whilst she flung everything back in without finding the jacket. I said "its a real pain when you cant find what you want because all you can find is things you dont want" she said yeah your right but i know the cupboard will stay the same way.

3 people live in our house and 3 toothbrushes are placed neatly in the bathroom cabinet. I have a couple under the kitchen sink that i use for cleaning.

Today i am kondoing scarves, belts, make up and jewellery.

I dont line my drawers either, well apart from when i am on my lady time.

    Be back later

    Regards

Judi - could you put your coat on Fleabay or similar. If you sell it you could put the money to a new one that's just right for you. Like you and GQ I like mandarin collars and confess to having a leather & suede jacket with a mandarin collar that I fell in love with about 10 years ago - I still love it & it gives me great joy ;) I did buy another one in a CS but that is not giving me joy so its going out one way or another!l

Or could you get your leather shop to remodel your old one???

    Thanks for the link.

I put my empty perfume/eau de toilette bottles in my lingerie drawers, with the tops off. Dead tight :money: - determined to get my money's worth, very MSE! :rotfl:

    Great idea:)

No drawer lining going on here - although I noticed OH has some red paper at the bottom of one of his drawers - no idea why. My grandmother use to put any fancy soap she got as presents in her drawer. I guess because it made things smell nice ( in the time before universal use of fab cond???) and sort of copied - have no idea why. I thought it was 'what you did' IYSWIM and the DDs have followed ever since they started getting soaps as part of Christmas/ birthday presents...............cue KM LBM in January. I went through all my drawers underwear/socks and found I had just naturally stashed away some lovely boxed Cath Kidstone soap that was a gift at Christmas from a friend, having turfed out some sops from previous year - as smell does go stale and doesn't appeal for using as it was intended. However in that moment I also thought about the 'sculpted candle' syndrome ( keeping stuff for best) and I decided to use it instead...........and I am so glad I have. Its beautiful soap and last for ages. Doesnt go soggy and smells divine - very luxurious and I use it every day........since January!!! have now instructed DDs to not put soap in drawers - USE IT:rotfl:

As far as drawer liners are concerned I think my take on it is that its personal preference, each to his/her own and all that. For me buying something impregnated with a pong that was probably made in the far east and shipped over and sold at a vastly inflated price, is a waste . If I did feel the need to line a drawer it would be some used wrapping paper or wall paper off cuts!!

:) Been talking to Mum on the phone this evening. They are presently in Day 5 of the central heating renewal. It will now roll into the first half of next week. Because of what's happening (a back boiler system downstairs being replaced with a combi boiler, in the airing cupboard) there is no almost no part of the house which isn't at sixes and sevens.

Today, my hoarder Mum volunteered that she needs to have a clear out. There will not be as many shelves in the airing cupboard. In fact, I am unclear as to whether there will be any shelves. Which means that the long-undisturbed textiles which have been stacked on these shelves are out, blinking in the light of day, stacked on the spare bed. They cannot go back, because there will not be room, and she remarked on this, and that they are really worn out, 50 years old in some cases.

My parents have been married 51 years and in that house since 1971. That isn't a good thing when one half of the parental unit is a hoarder, and the adult son who lives with them hoards, too. Only in his case it's stock pending sale................sigh.

She mentioned that there are other things than worn-out linens which need to go, but it was tentative, and I didn't dare draw too much attention to what I heard, in case the barricades went up again. I'll be over there next weekend. It will be busy, with family visiting, but we may be able to scoop some things off the surface and get them into the donation/ recycling streams as appropiate.

At my own modest homestead, I'm continuing to run down an overabundance of grocery items, and keep the stuff heading out. Such as taking the recyclables to the communal bin whenever I go out the door on other business, rather than piling them all up in a bag for life and only doing it when it's full. Easy enough habit to adopt, can't think why it took me so long to get into it.

Will now go and feed the recycling bin with the packaging from the meal I've just enjoyed, which is all washed up and ready to go.
